We Say
The finishing touch that brings tired headlights back into focus. Restore exceptional clarity, achieve a brilliant gloss and add protection in one polishing step.
Cloudy or weathered headlights can make even a beautifully maintained car look tired. It's something we see particularly often on older vehicles, where years of sunlight, washing and road debris have taken their toll on the lenses. Correcting that deterioration can make an enormous difference to the appearance of the front end, but achieving a genuinely clear finish requires more than simply removing the worst of the damage.
Koch-Chemie Headlight Polish 2 is designed for the finishing stage of a proper headlight restoration. It's a specialist high-gloss machine polish developed for previously prepared PMMA (acrylic) headlight lenses, combining fine abrasive correction with a sealing effect in one application.
What makes Headlight Polish 2 particularly useful is its ability to refine the surface after more aggressive correction. When heavily weathered headlights have been sanded or polished with a cutting compound, the major defects might have disappeared, but the lens can still look slightly hazy or lack that final level of optical clarity. This is where a dedicated finishing polish really comes into its own.
Koch-Chemie specifies that Headlight Polish 2 can remove sanding marks from P2000 grit, making it ideal for refining previously prepared acrylic lenses. Its finer abrasive action helps restore a smooth, high-gloss finish without relying on the heavy cutting power required during the earlier restoration stages.
It's worth thinking of Headlight Polish 1 and Headlight Polish 2 as complementary products rather than alternatives. Headlight Polish 1 is intended for heavier defect removal and sanding marks from P1000 grit. Headlight Polish 2 follows as the refinement stage, improving the final appearance while also providing a sealing effect. Using both products gives you a logical approach to restoring suitable heavily weathered headlights.
Another appealing feature is the simultaneous sealing effect. Rather than functioning purely as a polishing compound, Headlight Polish 2 also leaves behind a degree of surface protection as part of the finishing process. Koch-Chemie doesn't specify an exact protection lifespan, so we wouldn't treat it as a guaranteed substitute for a dedicated long-term UV coating, particularly where an original factory hard coating has been removed during sanding.
Application is straightforward for anyone familiar with machine polishing. Koch-Chemie recommends pairing the product with its One Step Pad and a rotary polishing machine, working in overlapping crosswise passes at medium speed and pressure. The main consideration is controlling temperature and avoiding unnecessary polishing around delicate edges or damaged areas.
One technical detail that's important to understand is the specified lens material. Koch-Chemie develops Headlight Polish 2 for PMMA, commonly known as acrylic. Many modern headlights are made from polycarbonate and may have a factory-applied protective coating. We'd therefore always check the lens construction and suitability before carrying out abrasive restoration work, rather than assuming every plastic headlight can be treated in exactly the same way.
It's also important to be realistic about what polishing can achieve. Headlight Polish 2 is designed to restore the surface of suitable lenses, not resolve internal condensation, deep structural cracking or deterioration beneath the surface. Where the damage is too severe, replacement or more specialist repair work may be necessary.
For us, Headlight Polish 2 makes the most sense as the final stage of Koch-Chemie's two-step headlight restoration system. It's designed to turn a properly corrected but slightly hazy acrylic lens into something much clearer and more attractive, with a useful sealing effect as a finishing bonus. If you're taking the time to restore weathered headlights properly, this is the product that helps deliver the final result.
Key Features
Description
Restore outstanding clarity and gloss to weathered acrylic headlights with Koch-Chemie Headlight Polish 2, a specialist high-gloss machine polishing compound designed for the finishing stage of headlight restoration.
Developed for previously prepared PMMA (acrylic) headlight lenses, Headlight Polish 2 removes fine surface defects and sanding marks from P2000 grit, helping restore the smooth, transparent appearance of properly corrected lenses.
Its innovative formulation combines fine abrasive polishing with a simultaneous sealing effect, making it particularly useful as the final step in Koch-Chemie's two-stage headlight restoration system.
For heavily weathered headlights, start with Koch-Chemie Headlight Polish 1 to remove more substantial defects and heavier sanding marks. Follow with Headlight Polish 2 to refine the lens, maximise clarity and achieve a beautifully glossy finish.
Koch-Chemie recommends application using a rotary polisher and its One Step Pad, working at medium speed and pressure in overlapping crosswise passes.

Complete the restoration: For the best possible result, use Headlight Polish 2 after Headlight Polish 1. The first stage delivers the heavier cutting action, while this second stage restores clarity, gloss and a sealing effect.
Recommended polishing equipment: Koch-Chemie specifies its One Step Pad for application. For alternative compatible polishing accessories, explore our machine polishing discs and pads. Always match pad and machine selection to the headlight material and the work being undertaken.
Keeping the results looking their best: Headlight Polish 2 has a sealing effect, but Koch-Chemie doesn't publish a specific protection lifespan. If an original protective coating has been removed during restoration, consider whether a suitable dedicated long-term UV protection system is necessary.
Please note: Headlight Polish 2 is specified for PMMA acrylic headlights. Check compatibility before use, particularly on polycarbonate lenses and factory hard coatings. Do not apply to hot surfaces or polish damaged lenses without assessing their suitability.

How To Use
1) Inspect the headlights:
Confirm that the lens material and any existing coating are compatible with polishing. Headlight Polish 2 is specifically designed for PMMA acrylic headlights. Do not assume that every polycarbonate or factory hard-coated lens can be treated in the same way.
2) Clean and prepare the lenses:
Thoroughly clean the headlights to remove dirt and contamination. Carefully mask surrounding paintwork, rubber seals, grilles and plastic trim before starting machine polishing.
3) Complete heavy correction if necessary:
If the headlight is heavily weathered or has significant sanding scratches, carry out the appropriate preparation and correction stages first. Koch-Chemie Headlight Polish 1 is designed to remove heavier defects and sanding marks from P1000 grit.
4) Select the correct polishing pad:
Fit a Koch-Chemie One Step Pad to a suitable rotary polishing machine. Make sure the pad size is appropriate for the shape and working area of the headlight.
5) Apply Headlight Polish 2:
Shake the bottle thoroughly. Apply a modest amount of polishing compound to the pad and distribute it evenly across a manageable working area.
6) Polish the surface:
Work in overlapping crosswise passes at medium machine speed and pressure, as recommended by Koch-Chemie. Keep the pad moving and closely monitor the temperature of the plastic lens.
7) Remove the residue:
Stop the machine and carefully remove the remaining polish using a clean, suitable microfibre towel. Avoid dragging contamination across the surface during inspection.
8) Inspect the finish:
Check the lens for clarity, gloss and any remaining fine scratches or haze. Repeat carefully where necessary, provided the lens material and coating system allow further correction.
9) Consider additional UV protection:
Headlight Polish 2 provides a sealing effect, but Koch-Chemie doesn't specify a fixed protection lifespan. Where an original protective coating has been removed during restoration, assess whether a suitable dedicated long-term UV protection system is required.
