We Say
Surface preparation is one of the most important stages of paint correction and ceramic coating application, yet it's also one of the easiest to overlook. Even after carefully machine polishing a vehicle, the paintwork can retain polishing oils, lubricants and other residues that temporarily conceal defects or interfere with the bonding of subsequent protection products.
Koch-Chemie Panel Preparation Spray, commonly known as PPS, has been developed specifically to address this problem. It's an alcohol-based, ready-to-use cleaner designed to remove polishing oils, waxes and residues, leaving the surface clean and allowing you to inspect the true condition of the paintwork.
One of the most useful applications is during machine polishing. Many compounds and finishing polishes contain lubricants that help the abrasives work effectively and reduce friction during polishing. However, these oils can also temporarily fill fine defects, making it difficult to determine whether scratches and holograms have actually been removed. A thorough wipe-down with PPS removes these residues, allowing you to inspect the paintwork properly under suitable lighting.
The second major application is preparing paintwork before applying a ceramic coating or paint sealant. For reactive protection products, surface cleanliness plays an important role in achieving consistent bonding. Any remaining oils, waxes or polishing residues can create an unwanted barrier between the paintwork and the protective product, potentially compromising its performance and durability.
What we particularly like about PPS is that it has been formulated specifically for this task rather than simply relying on a generic solvent or homemade isopropyl alcohol mixture. Koch-Chemie uses a carefully balanced alcohol-based formulation designed to remove residues effectively while maintaining good compatibility with suitable automotive surfaces.
It's also worth understanding what PPS doesn't do. This isn't a conventional pre-wash, tar remover or fallout remover, and it won't replace proper chemical and mechanical decontamination. Instead, it's the final chemical cleaning stage after washing, decontamination and paint correction, removing the remaining residues that could otherwise affect the finished result.
The ready-to-use formulation is another advantage. There's no need to experiment with dilution ratios or prepare a separate solution. Simply apply the product neat and wipe away with a clean, dry microfibre towel. It can be used on solvent-resistant paintwork, plastics and metals, although material compatibility should always be checked first.
For us, Koch-Chemie PPS is one of those products that doesn't necessarily make a vehicle look dramatically different on its own, but plays an important role in achieving a better final result. Whether you're checking the effectiveness of your polishing work or preparing for a ceramic coating, having a reliable panel wipe makes the process more consistent and gives you greater confidence in the surface you're working with.
Key Features
Description
Koch-Chemie Panel Preparation Spray (PPS) is a professional alcohol-based panel wipe designed to remove polishing oils, waxes and residues from automotive paintwork before inspection or the application of protective coatings.
Its specialised formulation effectively removes residual oils and contamination left behind by machine polishing products, allowing the true condition of the paintwork to be assessed. This is particularly important when inspecting for fine scratches, swirl marks and polishing holograms that may otherwise be temporarily concealed by lubricants or fillers.
PPS is also ideal for preparing surfaces before the application of ceramic coatings, paint sealants and other protection products. By removing remaining oils and residues, it helps provide the clean surface required for consistent bonding and optimum coating performance.
The ready-to-use formulation requires no dilution and is suitable for solvent-resistant paints, plastics and metals, subject to material compatibility testing. Koch-Chemie also confirms that the formulation is free from halogenated hydrocarbons.
Key benefits:
✓ Removes polishing oils, waxes and residual contamination
✓ Helps reveal scratches, swirl marks and polishing holograms
✓ Prepares paintwork for ceramic coatings and paint sealants
✓ Alcohol-based formulation developed for surface preparation
✓ Ready to use without dilution
✓ Suitable for solvent-resistant paints, plastics and metals
✓ Free from halogenated hydrocarbons
✓ Ideal for professional paint correction and coating preparation
For paint correction work, use PPS between polishing stages to inspect the surface and determine whether further refinement is necessary. Our cutting compounds and polishes range includes products for correcting and refining automotive paintwork before the final preparation stage.
Before installing a ceramic coating, thoroughly wipe down the prepared paintwork using PPS and a clean towel from our microfibre towel range. This helps remove the remaining polishing residues before applying your chosen protection.
Once the surface has been thoroughly prepared, explore our silica-based ceramic coating range for long-lasting paint protection options.

How To Use
1) Prepare the paintwork:
Ensure the vehicle has been thoroughly washed and decontaminated. If carrying out paint correction, complete the relevant polishing stage before applying PPS.
2) Check surface compatibility:
Test the product on an inconspicuous area to confirm colourfastness and material compatibility. Only use on suitable solvent-resistant surfaces.
3) Apply the product:
Apply Koch-Chemie Panel Preparation Spray undiluted to the area being treated. For greater control around sensitive components, apply the product to a clean microfibre cloth rather than spraying directly onto the surface.
4) Wipe away residues:
Using a clean, dry microfibre towel, gently wipe the treated area to remove polishing oils, waxes and remaining residues.
5) Inspect the paintwork:
Use appropriate inspection lighting to check the surface for remaining scratches, holograms or other defects. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary to remove any remaining residues.
6) Apply protection:
Once the surface is completely clean and dry, proceed with the chosen ceramic coating or paint sealant according to its specific application instructions.
Important Notes:
✓ Use undiluted; no mixing or dilution required
✓ Always check colourfastness and material compatibility
✓ Suitable for solvent-resistant paints, plastics and metals
✓ Use clean, dry microfibre towels for residue removal
✓ Avoid applying excessive pressure during wiping
✓ Work in a well-ventilated environment
✓ Keep away from heat, sparks and ignition sources
✓ Wear suitable protective equipment as specified in the SDS
Important: Panel Preparation Spray is a solvent-based cleaner. Do not use on sensitive or solvent-incompatible finishes without confirming compatibility. Read the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet before use.
