CarPro Reset Matte - Matte & Satin Car Shampoo

There's something rather special about a beautifully maintained matt or satin finish. Whether it's factory paintwork, paint protection film or a vinyl wrap, the understated appearance can look fantastic. Keeping it that way, however, requires a slightly different approach to conventional glossy paintwork.

One of the biggest considerations is choosing cleaning products that won't alter the finish. The last thing you want is a shampoo that leaves behind waxes, gloss enhancers or other ingredients that could gradually change the appearance of the surface. On a glossy car, that extra shine might be welcome. On a matt finish, it rather defeats the point.

CARPRO Reset Matte has been developed specifically to address this. It builds on the cleaning technology of the original CARPRO Reset, using pH-neutral surfactants capable of tackling road film and everyday contamination without adding unnecessary finishing ingredients.

Interestingly, the original Reset is already suitable for compatible matt and satin surfaces. CARPRO openly acknowledges this, which is refreshing. The reason for developing Reset Matte is to offer a shampoo more specifically tailored to these finishes, with additional cleaning surfactants designed to tackle the dirt that accumulates on textured, low-gloss materials.

That extra cleaning emphasis makes sense. Matt paint and textured films can hold contamination differently from smooth, glossy clear coats. Dirt can become more noticeable across the surface, and you can't simply machine polish a matt finish afterwards to correct imperfections or restore a consistent appearance.

Good lubrication is therefore particularly important. Reset Matte provides a slick washing solution that helps your wash mitt move smoothly across the surface, reducing unnecessary friction as dirt is lifted away. As with any contact wash, technique matters just as much as the shampoo, so we'd always recommend removing loose contamination beforehand and using clean, suitable wash media.

Another benefit is how cleanly the formula rinses away. There's no wax or gloss-enhancing residue left behind to interfere with the natural appearance of the finish. You're simply cleaning the surface and preserving the look you intended when choosing matt paint, satin PPF or a wrap in the first place.

The concentration is impressive too. CARPRO recommends a dilution of 1:400, which means just 30ml of shampoo in a 12-litre wash bucket. That makes it economical for regular maintenance, particularly for customers who prefer to wash their vehicles frequently rather than allowing contamination to build up.

We'd pair Reset Matte with the CARPRO HandWash Mitt, using light pressure and a thorough pre-rinse to minimise the chance of introducing marks. Once washed and rinsed, a clean CARPRO DHydrate Drying Towel is a useful finishing accessory to remove water before spotting can occur.

We also think it's important not to confuse maintaining a matt finish with making it completely maintenance-free. Bird droppings, hard water and stubborn contamination still need dealing with promptly, and unsuitable chemicals or aggressive cleaning techniques can permanently alter the appearance of sensitive finishes.
