We Say

Proper ceramic protection with far less solvent odour. Aqua brings impressive water repellency and up to a year of protection to a water-based formula.

Ceramic coatings have become considerably easier to work with over the years, but one thing many traditional formulations have in common is their solvent content. Anyone who's applied a coating in a relatively small garage will be familiar with the strong smell that can accompany the process.

CARPRO CQUARTZ Aqua takes a different approach. Rather than relying on a conventional solvent-heavy carrier, it uses a water-based formulation with very low levels of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. The result is a coating designed to be more comfortable to apply while retaining the protective properties that have made the CQUARTZ range so popular.

We think that's an interesting development. Until recently, choosing a ceramic coating generally meant concentrating on durability, gloss, water repellency and ease of application. Aqua introduces another consideration: how pleasant the product is to work with, particularly for enthusiasts applying protection in their own garages.

Importantly, this isn't simply a short-lived spray sealant dressed up as a ceramic coating. CARPRO specifies up to 12 months of protection, with strong hydrophobic behaviour, self-cleaning properties and resistance to UV exposure and everyday chemical contamination.

The water repellency is one of Aqua's main attractions. A properly prepared and coated surface encourages water to form beads and move away more readily, helping reduce the adhesion of everyday road grime. It won't eliminate the need for washing, but it should make regular maintenance noticeably easier.

Another useful feature is its broad surface compatibility. CARPRO has developed Aqua to bond to almost any suitable exterior automotive surface, with glass being the notable exception. This makes it an appealing option for customers who want consistent protection across several different exterior materials rather than managing multiple specialist coatings.

There is one distinction worth making. Very low VOC content doesn't mean a coating is completely harmless or that it can be applied without ventilation. We would still recommend gloves, suitable airflow and careful attention to the instructions supplied with the product. Aqua simply reduces the solvent-related discomfort associated with many traditional coatings.

Preparation remains just as important as with any other ceramic coating. Start with a thorough wash, remove bonded contamination and correct any paint defects you want to address. A final wipe with CARPRO Eraser helps remove polishing oils and leaves a suitably clean surface before application.

For regular maintenance afterwards, CARPRO Reset is an excellent match. It's designed for effective cleaning of protected paintwork without depositing unnecessary gloss enhancers that could mask the coating's natural water behaviour.

Compared with a conventional long-term coating such as CQUARTZ UK 4.0, Aqua isn't primarily about delivering the longest possible service life. Its manufacturer-claimed durability is up to one year. The appeal is achieving genuine ceramic protection with a water-based formula that feels considerably more approachable for home installation.

For us, CQUARTZ Aqua is a welcome addition to the CARPRO range. It offers a different route into ceramic protection, one that puts reduced VOC content and application comfort alongside strong water repellency and straightforward maintenance. That's why we think it deserves a place at PolishedBliss.

Key Features

Durability UP TO 1 YEAR (Manufacturer claim)
Water Beading 9/10 (Highly hydrophobic)
VOC Content VERY LOW (Water-based formula)

Description

CARPRO CQUARTZ Aqua is a water-based ceramic coating designed to provide up to 12 months of hydrophobic, UV and chemical protection across a wide range of compatible exterior vehicle surfaces.

Formulated with very low levels of volatile organic compounds, Aqua offers a more comfortable alternative to traditional solvent-heavy coatings. It provides excellent water repellency and self-cleaning behaviour while reducing the strong solvent odour commonly associated with ceramic coating application.

Its versatile formulation is designed for compatible exterior surfaces, excluding glass, making it particularly appealing to enthusiasts who want effective ceramic protection with a reduced-VOC application experience.

Why you'll love it:
✓ Genuine water-based ceramic coating technology
✓ Very low VOC formulation
✓ Reduced solvent odour during application
✓ Up to 12 months of manufacturer-claimed protection
✓ Excellent hydrophobic performance and water beading
✓ Self-cleaning properties help reduce dirt adhesion
✓ UV protection for compatible exterior surfaces
✓ Resistance to everyday chemical contamination
✓ Suitable for a broad range of compatible exterior materials
✓ Particularly appealing for home garage application
✓ Easier maintenance of properly coated surfaces
✓ Supplied in a 100ml bottle

Prepare the surface properly: Remove embedded iron contamination using CARPRO IronX, then carry out any necessary polishing. Finish with CARPRO Eraser to remove residual oils and prepare the surface for coating.

For coating removal: Clean CARPRO 2Face Edgeless Microfibre Towels are useful for carefully levelling coating residue on suitable smooth surfaces.

Aftercare: Maintain the finish with CARPRO Reset and appropriate washing techniques. Regular cleaning helps preserve the coating's water-repellent performance.

Please note: CQUARTZ Aqua is not suitable for glass. Very low VOC content does not remove the need for correct safety precautions, surface preparation or curing. Actual protection durability depends on application conditions, environmental exposure and maintenance.

How To Use

1) Wash and decontaminate:
Thoroughly wash the vehicle and remove bonded contamination using suitable products. CARPRO IronX can be used to remove ferrous deposits before coating. Remove tar and other contamination where necessary.

2) Correct paint defects:
Polish the paintwork if required to remove swirl marks, scratches and oxidation. Any defects left behind will remain visible beneath the coating.

3) Prepare the surface:
Remove polishing oils and residues using CARPRO Eraser or another appropriate panel preparation cleaner. Ensure the surface is cool, completely clean and thoroughly dry.

4) Check compatibility:
Carry out a test on an inconspicuous area, particularly when applying to unfamiliar plastics, wrapped finishes or other sensitive materials. Do not apply to glass.

5) Prepare the applicator:
Use the applicator specified in the current CQUARTZ Aqua instructions. An independent CARPRO retailer recommends applying several lines of coating to a suede applicator wrapped around a suitable block.

6) Apply evenly:
Work on a manageable section at a time, spreading a thin, consistent coating over the prepared surface. An independent retailer suggests sections of approximately 50 × 50cm using overlapping passes.

7) Level the coating:
Follow the flash and levelling instructions supplied with CQUARTZ Aqua. The retailer's guidance describes waiting for a light dry haze before gently wiping the residue away with a clean, dry microfibre towel. Do not assume that the timing of other CQUARTZ coatings applies to Aqua.

8) Inspect carefully:
Check each completed area under suitable lighting for streaks, uneven coverage or high spots. Correct any remaining residue before the coating fully cures.

9) Allow the coating to cure:
Protect the treated surfaces according to the Aqua-specific instructions supplied with your product. An independent retailer suggests an initial 30-minute moisture-free period and a 30-minute interval between layers, but these timings have not been independently verified against CARPRO's official technical instructions.

10) Maintain regularly:
Once the coating has cured sufficiently for washing, use CARPRO Reset and safe washing techniques. Avoid allowing mineral-rich water or other contamination to dry on the surface.

Important Notes:
✓ Water-based, very low-VOC ceramic coating
✓ Use only on compatible exterior surfaces
✓ Not suitable for glass
✓ Always test an inconspicuous area first
✓ Ensure surfaces are completely clean and dry
✓ Avoid hot surfaces and direct sunlight
✓ Work in a suitably ventilated area
✓ Follow the current Aqua-specific flash and curing instructions
✓ Inspect carefully for uneven residue or high spots
✓ Keep the freshly applied coating protected during curing
✓ Wear suitable protective equipment
✓ Follow the current product label and Safety Data Sheet
