3M Respirator

by 3M

We Say

Silica-based coatings have become very popular in recent years, particularly for professional detailing treatments. However, these products typically contain strong solvents that evaporate during the curing process. This produces potent fumes that can cause dizziness, headaches and nausea in poorly ventilated workspaces. As such, we strongly recommend wearing a 3M Respirator whenever you work with coatings, as doing so will help to prevent you from breathing in these fumes and becoming unwell.

Key Features

Chemically ResistantYes(Tolerates Strong Chemicals)
ConstructionThermoplastic(Dominant Material)
WashableYes(Wipe Clean Only)

The 3M Respirator (in this case the 4000 series FFA1P2RD model) uses maintenance-free activated carbon filters to capture the organic vapours emitted by silica-based coatings as they cure. The low profile, flexible design is comfortable to wear and features an efficient exhaust valve. The 4000 series FFA1P2RD model complies with European Standard EN 405:2001+A1:2009 for respiratory protective devices and provides protection against organic vapours up to 10 x Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) or 1000 parts per million (ppm), whichever is lower.

How To Use

You should wear a 3M Respirator whenever you work with silica-based coatings that emit strong organic vapours as they cure. To ensure a perfect seal, position the face mask over your mouth and nose, and then tighten the elastic straps (you may need to adjust the cradle to achieve a comfortable fit). Test the seal before starting work by covering the exhaust valve with your fingers and breathing out; if the respirator bulges slightly and no air leaks out between the mask and your face a proper fit has been achieved.
