We Say
The NexDiag NexPTG Professional is the sort of tool that instantly raises the standard of paint inspection. If you’re buying, selling, correcting or coating vehicles, a reliable paint thickness gauge gives you the context you can’t get from your eyes alone — factory paint vs. repaint, how much clear coat you have to work with, and whether a panel has been heavily polished in the past.
What makes the NexPTG Professional stand out is the movable spherical probe and profiled probe housing, which makes it far easier to take repeatable readings on curved panels and awkward shapes. Add fast measurement speed, large memory, and Bluetooth connectivity for reporting, and you’ve got a genuinely professional inspection tool that’s as useful for detailers as it is for bodyshops and used-car buyers.
Key Features
Description
The NexDiag NexPTG Professional is an advanced paint and coating thickness gauge designed for accurate inspection of automotive bodywork. It measures coating thickness on steel [Fe], galvanised steel [Fe+Zn] and aluminium [Al], and automatically recognises the substrate type for reliable readings across common vehicle panels.
With a measurement range of 0–2500 μm and high-resolution measurement capability, the NexPTG Professional is suited to everything from confirming factory paint consistency to identifying repainted panels and evaluating how much material is available before paint correction.
A key design advantage is the movable spherical probe with a profiled probe housing, which helps maintain stable contact on curved, concave and convex areas (where many gauges struggle for repeatability). Measurements can be stored in memory (up to 4000 readings) and transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.0 LE) for reporting and record-keeping.
The kit is typically supplied with the gauge, calibration set, batteries and carry case, making it ready to use out of the box for inspections, correction planning and vehicle assessments.

How To Use
Ensure the panel is clean and dry (heavy contamination or wet surfaces can affect contact consistency). Fit batteries and power on the gauge, then calibrate using the supplied calibration set before first use or whenever accuracy is critical.
Place the probe flat against the panel and take readings in a grid pattern across each panel (e.g., top/middle/bottom and front/centre/rear). This helps you spot variation that may indicate repairs, repaints, or aggressive polishing.
For curved areas, use the movable spherical probe to keep stable contact and take multiple readings for consistency. Save readings to memory for later review, or connect via Bluetooth to generate reports within the NexDiag ecosystem where supported.
When planning machine polishing, treat readings as guidance: unusually low measurements may indicate limited clear coat remaining, so adjust pad/polish choice and technique accordingly.
