We Say
When it comes to deep cleaning vehicle interiors, some types of contamination simply require more than a conventional cleaning cloth or detailing brush. Dirt can become deeply embedded in carpet fibres, floor mats and textured surfaces, particularly in high-traffic areas such as footwells and load compartments. Even with a good interior cleaner, removing this contamination by hand can be surprisingly time-consuming.
The Koch-Chemie Drill Brush Set offers a more efficient approach. Designed to fit a conventional cordless drill or screwdriver, these brushes use powered rotation to provide consistent mechanical agitation, helping loosen ingrained dirt and work cleaning solutions into suitable surfaces considerably faster than manual brushing alone.
What we particularly like is that Koch-Chemie hasn't taken a one-brush-fits-all approach. The Drill Brush Set is available in two distinct versions, each featuring a different bristle hardness and intended application. This is an important distinction because the level of agitation suitable for a robust rubber floor mat can be excessive for fabric upholstery or carpet fibres.
The yellow Medium set is designed for general interior cleaning duties, including upholstery, carpets, velour floor mats, door sills and hard-wearing interior plastics. The medium bristles provide enough mechanical action to help dislodge embedded dirt without being as aggressive as the harder version. It's the set we'd generally recommend for conventional interior fabric and carpet cleaning, provided the material is suitable for powered agitation.
The red Hard set is intended for more demanding cleaning work. Its firmer bristles are designed for robust surfaces such as rubber floor mats, uncoated plastic pedals and load compartment materials. These are areas where dirt can become heavily ingrained and where a more aggressive brush can be beneficial. However, the increased stiffness also means it needs to be used with greater care.
One of the main advantages of using a drill-mounted brush is consistency. When manually scrubbing a large carpet or floor mat, the pressure and movement can vary considerably as you work. Powered rotation helps maintain a consistent agitation pattern, which can make larger cleaning jobs quicker and less physically demanding.
That said, more agitation isn't necessarily better. A drill brush can generate significant friction, particularly if used at high speed or with excessive pressure. On delicate upholstery, sensitive carpets or painted trim, this can cause damage rather than improve cleaning performance. Koch-Chemie specifically recommends working with low pressure and warns against using these brushes on sensitive or painted surfaces.
We would therefore recommend starting with a low drill speed, allowing the bristles and cleaning product to do the work rather than forcing the brush against the surface. Regularly checking the condition of the material is also important, particularly when cleaning older carpets or upholstery where fibres may already be weakened.
Another advantage is the three-piece format. Having several brush sizes available makes it easier to tackle different areas of the interior, from larger carpet sections to smaller footwells and more awkward corners. Koch-Chemie also supplies the brushes in practical KCX-branded packaging, which helps keep the set organised between uses.
For best results, we'd pair the Medium set with a suitable fabric cleaner such as Koch-Chemie Pol Star. The combination of controlled chemical cleaning and mechanical agitation can be particularly effective on heavily soiled carpets and floor mats. For robust rubber surfaces, a stronger cleaner may be appropriate, provided both the chemical and material are compatible.
For us, the Koch-Chemie Drill Brush Set is a genuinely useful accessory for anyone carrying out more intensive interior detailing. The ability to choose between medium and hard bristles makes the system more versatile than a generic drill brush, while the powered cleaning action can save considerable time on larger jobs. Used carefully and on the correct surfaces, it's an excellent way to make deep interior cleaning more efficient.
Key Features
Description
The Koch-Chemie Drill Brush Set is a professional three-piece cleaning brush kit designed for use with standard cordless drills and screwdrivers. Developed to provide efficient mechanical agitation, the brushes help loosen stubborn dirt and contamination from suitable automotive interior surfaces.
Available in two different bristle hardness options, the Drill Brush Set allows you to choose the appropriate cleaning strength for the material being treated. Each set contains three brushes and is supplied in practical KCX-branded packaging for convenient storage.
Medium Drill Brush Set (Yellow):
The Medium version features moderately firm bristles designed for cleaning carpets, upholstery, velour floor mats, door sills, load compartments and hard-wearing interior plastics. It provides effective agitation for general interior cleaning tasks where additional mechanical action is required.
Hard Drill Brush Set (Red):
The Hard version features stronger bristles intended for more intensive cleaning of robust surfaces. It is particularly suitable for rubber floor mats, uncoated plastic pedals and hard-wearing load compartment materials where stubborn contamination requires more aggressive agitation.

How To Use
1) Select the appropriate brush set:
Choose the Medium (Yellow) version for suitable carpets, upholstery, velour floor mats and robust interior plastics. Use the Hard (Red) version only for more durable surfaces such as rubber floor mats, uncoated plastic pedals and hard-wearing load compartment materials.
2) Prepare the surface:
Vacuum carpets and upholstery thoroughly to remove loose dirt, grit and debris before introducing mechanical agitation. For rubber floor mats, remove loose contamination and rinse where appropriate.
3) Check material compatibility:
Test an inconspicuous area before cleaning. Do not use the brushes on sensitive or painted surfaces. Avoid delicate leather, fragile textiles, glossy plastics, display screens and other easily damaged materials.
4) Attach the brush:
Secure the selected brush in the chuck of a compatible cordless drill or screwdriver. Ensure it is properly fitted and centred before operating the tool.
5) Apply a suitable cleaner:
Apply an appropriate interior cleaning product according to the chemical manufacturer's instructions. For suitable fabric surfaces, consider Koch-Chemie Pol Star. Avoid oversaturating fabrics and carpets.
6) Begin at low speed:
Start the drill at a low rotational speed and lightly work the brush across the surface. Use minimal pressure and allow the rotating bristles to loosen the contamination rather than forcing the brush into the material.
7) Work systematically:
Clean one manageable section at a time using controlled movements. Keep the brush moving and avoid prolonged agitation in a single area, as excessive friction can damage fibres or surface finishes.
8) Remove loosened contamination:
Once the dirt has been agitated, remove the cleaning solution and loosened contamination using an appropriate microfibre towel, wet vacuum or extraction machine, depending on the material and cleaning product being used.
9) Inspect the surface:
Check the cleaned area for remaining contamination and inspect the material for any signs of excessive agitation. Repeat carefully where necessary, avoiding unnecessary pressure.
10) Clean the brushes:
Remove the brushes from the drill, rinse thoroughly with clean water and remove any trapped dirt or residues. Allow the brushes to dry naturally before returning them to their packaging.
Important Notes:
✓ Always select the correct bristle hardness
✓ Use low drill speed and minimal pressure
✓ Test material compatibility before cleaning
✓ Vacuum carpets and upholstery before agitation
✓ Avoid excessive friction and prolonged contact
✓ Do not use on sensitive or painted surfaces
✓ Keep the brushes away from delicate trim and electronics
✓ Follow the cleaning chemical manufacturer's instructions
✓ Rinse brushes thoroughly after use
✓ Allow brushes to dry naturally before storage
Important: Drill-mounted brushes can generate considerably more mechanical agitation than hand brushes. Excessive speed or pressure may damage fabrics, plastics and other surfaces. Always begin gently, select the appropriate brush hardness and inspect the material regularly throughout the cleaning process.
