We Say

When faded plastics need more than a dressing, restore their original black appearance with genuine colour coverage and excellent weather resistance.

Faded exterior plastics can make an otherwise beautifully maintained car look surprisingly tired. Bumpers, side mouldings and textured plastic trim gradually lose their rich black appearance, often turning an uneven shade of grey after years of exposure to sunlight and the elements.

For mild fading, a quality trim dressing such as Koch-Chemie Plast Star can make a significant improvement. However, when plastics have become particularly weathered, an ordinary dressing may not provide the depth of colour or visual consistency you're looking for.

That's where Koch-Chemie Kunststoff-Färber Schwarz comes in. Rather than relying purely on a dressing to temporarily darken the surface, this specialist black dye paste is designed to recolour badly faded exterior plastic components. It delivers excellent covering power while also caring for and impregnating the treated material.

The key advantage is that you're restoring colour, rather than simply applying a cosmetic shine. This makes it especially interesting for older vehicles, restoration projects and heavily weathered trim where the original black finish has deteriorated substantially.

Preparation is particularly important. Any accumulated dirt, grease, old dressings or wax residues can interfere with the appearance and performance of the treatment. The plastic therefore needs to be cleaned thoroughly, with surrounding paintwork and other areas carefully masked before application.

Koch-Chemie recommends applying a thin, even layer at room temperature using a fine-pored sponge that has been slightly moistened with water. Further applications can be made if necessary to achieve the desired coverage.

Patience is essential after application. The product becomes touch-dry after approximately one hour, but Koch-Chemie specifies around one week before it reaches full resistance. That distinction matters if you're planning to wash the vehicle or expose the treated trim to demanding conditions immediately afterwards.

We'd particularly recommend Kunststoff-Färber for restoration work where conventional trim dressings no longer produce a satisfactory result. It isn't intended as a routine maintenance product for every wash, but for genuinely tired black exterior plastics, its ability to provide fresh colour coverage makes it a useful specialist option.

Description

Koch-Chemie Kunststoff-Färber Schwarz is a specialist, water-resistant black plastic dye paste designed to restore the appearance of heavily faded or weathered exterior vehicle plastics.

Its high-coverage formulation recolours tired black plastic surfaces while simultaneously caring for and impregnating the treated material. With excellent resistance to environmental exposure, it's particularly suited to exterior trim restoration where an ordinary plastic dressing may no longer produce the desired result.

Application is straightforward, but preparation and curing are essential. Thoroughly clean the plastic to remove dirt, grease and wax residues, then apply a thin layer using a slightly moistened, fine-pored sponge. The finish becomes touch-dry after approximately one hour, with full resistance developing after around one week.

Preparing the surface: All existing dressing residues, grease and contamination should be removed before applying the dye. Explore our trim cleaners and dressings and applicator pads for suitable preparation and application accessories.

Need a conventional trim dressing instead? For plastics that are only lightly faded, Koch-Chemie Plast Star is a more straightforward maintenance option. Kunststoff-Färber is intended for deeper black colour restoration where conventional dressings cannot achieve the required appearance.

Please note: This is a black colouring product. Mask surrounding surfaces carefully and always test compatibility and the resulting colour on a small, inconspicuous area before treating an entire component.

How To Use

1) Prepare the plastic:
Thoroughly clean the exterior plastic component, removing all dirt, grease, wax residues and previous dressings. The surface must be suitably prepared before applying a colouring product.

2) Check compatibility:
Test a small, inconspicuous area to confirm that the dye is suitable for the plastic and produces the desired black finish.

3) Mask surrounding areas:
Protect paintwork, glass, rubber seals and other components that are not intended to be recoloured.

4) Prepare the applicator:
Use a fine-pored sponge that has been slightly moistened with clean water. Work at room temperature, as recommended by Koch-Chemie.

5) Apply a thin layer:
Spread a small amount of Kunststoff-Färber evenly across the prepared plastic. Aim for consistent, thin coverage rather than applying a heavy layer.

6) Repeat if necessary:
If further colour coverage is required, repeat the application as appropriate, following the manufacturer's guidance.

7) Allow to dry:
The product becomes touch-dry after approximately 1 hour. Protect the treated areas from unnecessary contact during drying.

8) Allow full curing:
Koch-Chemie specifies approximately 1 week before the finish reaches full resistance. Avoid washing, abrading or heavily exposing freshly treated surfaces during this period.

9) Store correctly:
After use, close the tube securely to maintain an airtight seal.
