We Say
Applying an interior dressing might seem like a straightforward job, but getting an even finish across every part of a dashboard can be surprisingly difficult. Modern interiors feature a mixture of large textured plastic panels, narrow trim sections, recessed areas and awkward spaces that aren't always easy to reach with a conventional microfibre cloth or bulky foam applicator.
One of the most troublesome areas is the narrow gap between the dashboard and the bottom of the windscreen. This section is often difficult to reach properly, particularly on vehicles with deeply recessed windscreens, and trying to apply a dressing using a conventional round applicator can leave areas untreated or result in unwanted product transfer onto the glass.
The Koch-Chemie Interior Trim Applicator Sponge has been developed specifically to make this type of work easier. Rather than relying on a conventional round or cylindrical foam design, it features a soft, flat construction that allows you to work precisely across interior plastics and into areas where larger applicators struggle to fit.
At just 3 cm thick, the sponge has a particularly useful low-profile design. Its 10 x 8 cm dimensions provide enough surface area to distribute a dressing evenly across larger sections of trim, while remaining compact enough to manoeuvre around tight corners, dashboard edges and narrow gaps.
What we particularly like about this type of applicator is the control it provides over product distribution. When applying an interior dressing, using too much product can leave the surface looking uneven, greasy or excessively glossy. By applying a small amount directly to the sponge, you can spread the dressing more consistently and avoid spraying chemicals onto adjacent glass, screens or controls.
The soft foam construction is also well suited to the relatively delicate materials found throughout modern vehicle interiors. Textured plastics and vinyl surfaces generally don't require aggressive mechanical action when applying protection; the objective is simply to distribute a thin, even layer of product across the surface.
We would particularly recommend pairing this sponge with Koch-Chemie Top Star, which is designed to clean, protect and enhance interior plastics and rubber. The combination makes it easy to apply a controlled amount of dressing to dashboards, door panels and other interior surfaces before removing any excess with a clean microfibre towel.
As with any foam applicator, it's important to keep it clean and avoid transferring contamination between different surfaces. We'd recommend dedicating the sponge to interior dressing applications rather than using it interchangeably with abrasive cleaners or exterior products.
For us, the Koch-Chemie Interior Trim Applicator Sponge is one of those simple accessories that makes a particular detailing job considerably easier. Its flat, low-profile design addresses a genuine problem when dressing dashboards and awkward interior trim, while the soft foam construction allows products to be applied evenly and with good control. It's a small addition to the detailing kit, but one that makes achieving a consistent interior finish much more straightforward.

How To Use
1) Prepare the interior surfaces:
Ensure the dashboard, console and other plastic surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned and are free from loose dirt, dust and contamination. Use a suitable interior cleaner where necessary before applying a dressing.
2) Select a suitable dressing:
Choose an appropriate interior plastic care product, such as Koch-Chemie Top Star, and follow the product manufacturer's application instructions.
3) Apply the product to the sponge:
Place a small amount of dressing directly onto the applicator sponge. Avoid oversaturating the foam, as excess product can make it more difficult to achieve a consistent finish.
4) Spread evenly across the surface:
Using light, controlled movements, spread the dressing across the plastic trim. Work systematically to achieve thin, even coverage without leaving excessive product behind.
5) Treat difficult-to-reach areas:
Use the sponge's flat, low-profile shape to reach narrow areas such as the gap between the dashboard and windscreen. Take care to avoid transferring dressing onto adjacent glass, displays or other sensitive surfaces.
6) Allow the dressing to settle:
Follow the dressing manufacturer's recommended dwell or drying time. Where required, remove excess product using a clean microfibre towel to achieve a uniform finish.
7) Inspect the results:
Check the treated surfaces for streaks, uneven coverage or excessive gloss. Lightly buff any remaining residue with a clean towel where appropriate.
8) Clean the applicator:
After use, rinse the sponge using a suitable cleaning method compatible with the dressing applied. Gently work out any remaining product and allow the sponge to dry naturally before storage.
Care Instructions:
✓ Keep the applicator free from dirt and abrasive contamination
✓ Use only with suitable interior care products
✓ Avoid oversaturating the sponge
✓ Clean after use where appropriate
✓ Avoid aggressive solvents unless compatibility is confirmed
✓ Allow the applicator to dry completely before storing
✓ Store in a clean, dry and dust-free environment
Important: Always follow the dressing manufacturer's instructions and check surface compatibility before application. Avoid transferring interior dressings onto steering wheels, pedals, displays, windscreens or other surfaces where unwanted residues could affect grip, visibility or operation.
