We Say

Under-bonnet plastics and rubber rarely fail because they’re “dry” — they fail because heat cycles, moisture and road film leave surfaces looking chalky, blotchy, and permanently dirty. Most dressings just mask this with a greasy sheen that attracts dust and then looks worse a week later.

Motorplast works because it’s designed as a conserver rather than a high-shine dressing. It lays down a thin, water-displacing film that fully dries with no lubricating layer, so it doesn’t leave that tacky feel that pulls grime back onto the surface. The finish is naturally glossy, but controlled — more OEM than show-car wet look.

What we like most is how consistent it is in real-world use. Applied after proper cleaning, it evens out colour on plastics and rubber hoses, improves the “just detailed” look of housings and covers, and it stays tidy because the film remains elastic instead of going brittle or sticky as temperatures rise and fall.

Summary: if you want an engine bay to look properly maintained (not over-dressed), Motorplast is one of the cleanest ways to add a durable, natural-looking finish with sensible protection built in.

Description

Koch Chemie Motorplast (MP) is a specialist engine-bay conserver designed to restore a factory-fresh finish on plastics, rubber hoses and housings after cleaning. It’s built around a water-displacing, self-drying film that fully cures with no greasy smear layer, helping to reduce dirt re-adhesion while leaving a natural shine.

If you’re tackling an engine bay, the real challenge is that heat, moisture and road film quickly undo cosmetic dressings. Motorplast addresses this by forming a permanently elastic protective layer that helps shield components from environmental exposure and contributes to corrosion resistance on treated parts. It’s also suitable for use on wet or dry surfaces, which makes it easy to integrate into a normal wash workflow.

For best results, the preparation step matters. Start by safely degreasing and rinsing the area, then dry as much as practical. For pre-cleaning, Koch Chemie Green Star GS pairs well alongside Motorplast for breaking down oily deposits before you preserve the surfaces.

You’ll find Motorplast within the wider Koch Chemie system, which is useful if you like products that are designed to work together across wash, decontamination and finishing stages.

If you’re shopping specifically for trim and plastic protection products, you can also browse our Trim Restorers & Protectants collection for other exterior protectants and dressings.

How To Use

Koch Chemie Motorplast is best used after you’ve actually cleaned the engine bay. The product isn’t a degreaser — it’s the finishing step that preserves plastics, rubber and housings once the grime is gone.

1) Work on a cool engine bay. Pre-clean the area thoroughly, rinse, and remove standing water where possible.

2) Shake well. Apply a light, even mist to the pre-cleaned surfaces (wet or dry is fine).

3) Allow it to self-dry. Do not buff; the film cures as it dries.

4) Apply a second light coat only if you want a touch more visual enhancement.

Pro tip: avoid using on pedals, steering wheels, tyre treads or any surface where slipperiness is undesirable.
