We Say

Although we've seen numerous detailers using headlamps over the years, we've never taken to using one ourselves, mainly because standard headlamps tend to illuminate a fairly narrow field of view at close distances, which isn't very useful when you're working on engine bays and interiors, for example. However, the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 changes this, as it's a remarkably compact headlamp that provides superior wide-field illumination for any detailing task. Although it can be used to spot paint defects, its real value lies in providing additional line of sight illumination when ambient light levels are low. In this respect, it's brilliant for interior work, and for cleaning duties under the car and in the wheel arches and engine bay. The SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 features two buttons that are easy to press one-handed; one is the on-off switch, which also toggles between two lumen output levels, and the other activates a sensor that allows a wave of your hand to turn the light on and off. Overall, the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 is sleek, robust and handy to own.

Key Features

Colour Temperature 4500/6500 K (Warm White/Cold White)
Light Output 80 - 160 lm (Luminous Flux)
Warranty 2 Year (Return To Base)

The SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 is a lightweight rechargeable headlamp that provides superior hands-free illumination for any detailing task. The patented design features a powerful COB LED that outputs up to 160 lumens of either warm white light or cold white light (selectable colour temperatures of 4500 K and 6500 K, with full spectrum CRI+ values of more than 96%) and features two lumen output options; step 1, which deploys 50% of maximum illuminance (approximately 250 lux at 50 cm), and step 2, which deploys 100% of maximum illuminance (approximately 500 lux at 50 cm). The COB LED technology produces uniform illumination over your entire field of view, which makes it ideal for detailing purposes. The SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 is powered by an internal 3.8 V 1600 mAh Li-polymer battery. A fully charged battery enables up to 5 hours of continuous operation in the step 1 mode, and recharging usually takes around 4 hours. Each SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 comes supplied with a USB charging cable, an instruction manual and a two year return to base warranty.

How To Use

Before using the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 for the first time, fully charge the internal 3.8 V 1600 mAh Li-polymer battery using the supplied USB charging cable (always connect the power cable to the headlamp before plugging it in to the mains); this usually takes around 2 hours from new, as the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 is supplied partially charged). In future, recharge the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 as and when required; this typically takes around 4 hours from a flat state. Note that you should never store the SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 with a flat battery, as it could become over-discharged and impossible to reuse. Bearing this in mind, if you don't intend to use your SCANGRIP I-MATCH 2 for a long period of time (i.e. several months or more), make sure that you recharge it every 30 days or so, in order to ensure that the battery remains in good condition. On a more general note, use the step 1 mode for general detailing duties, and the step 2 mode to ruthlessly check correction work (we also recommend alternating between the two colour temperatures when checking correction work, as they highlight defects quite differently depending on the colour of the finish).
