You can have perfectly polished paintwork and spotless wheels, but if the bumpers, grilles and plastic trims have turned a faded shade of grey, the whole vehicle can look a little tired.

That's where Koch-Chemie THE FINISHER PlastCare comes in. It's a premium exterior plastic and rubber care product developed to restore a richer, more natural appearance to weathered surfaces while providing protection against the elements.

One of the things we like about PlastCare is that it addresses more than just the appearance of the trim. Yes, it brings back colour and gives faded plastics a much fresher finish, but it also leaves behind a protective layer designed to resist UV radiation, weathering and environmental exposure. That makes it more useful than a quick cosmetic dressing that looks good immediately but disappears after the next wash.

Koch-Chemie describes the protection as lasting up to several months, which is particularly appealing for a product in the more accessible THE FINISHER range. Actual longevity will depend on the material, preparation, weather exposure and how the vehicle is maintained, but the emphasis here is clearly on durability rather than a temporary shine.

Another welcome detail is the silicone-free formulation. This is worth highlighting because not everyone wants a conventional silicone-rich dressing on their exterior plastics. PlastCare offers a dedicated alternative without compromising its focus on colour enhancement and weather protection.

It's also pleasingly versatile. The manufacturer recommends it for exterior plastic components such as bumpers and mouldings, along with suitable rubber parts and tyre sidewalls. In other words, it can be used to tidy up several of the areas that tend to make an otherwise well-maintained car look older than it really is.

Application is straightforward, although preparation is particularly important with this type of product. We'd always recommend thoroughly cleaning the surfaces first and letting them dry completely. Applying a dressing over embedded dirt, old product residues or moisture is rarely the best route to an even, lasting finish.

Once the surfaces are ready, simply work a small amount of PlastCare into a clean applicator sponge and spread it evenly. Allow it to dry completely so the protective finish can develop, then lightly buff with a soft microfibre towel if you need to even out the appearance or remove excess product.

It's worth distinguishing PlastCare from an interior dressing such as Koch-Chemie Top Star. Although both are designed to improve the appearance of plastic surfaces, PlastCare is specifically intended for exterior areas exposed to sun, rain and road grime. That makes it the more appropriate choice for bumper plastics, exterior mouldings and suitable rubber trim.

For us, PlastCare ticks all the important boxes for exterior trim care. It gives tired plastics a welcome lift, doesn't require complicated application techniques and offers the prospect of lasting protection rather than a finish that disappears almost immediately. If your car's exterior plastics are starting to look their age, this is a very worthwhile addition to your detailing kit.

Key Features

Darkening Effect
9/10
(Restores faded trim)

Weather Protection
9/10
(UV and weather resistance)

    Durability
    SEVERAL MONTHS
    (Manufacturer guidance)

Description

Restore the appearance of faded exterior plastics with Koch-Chemie THE FINISHER PlastCare, a premium silicone-free plastic and rubber care product designed to deliver a rich, refreshed finish with long-lasting protection.

Over time, exposure to sunlight, rain and environmental contamination can leave exterior plastic trim looking dull, grey and weathered.
