Introducing Bilt Hamber…

Introducing Bilt Hamber...

While we pride ourselves on introducing innovative products to the market on a regular basis, we aren’t too proud to admit that sometimes we overlook the obvious and fail to take on certain lines quickly enough. Bilt Hamber products have been available for many years now, but for some inexplicable reason we’ve never taken them on, despite using some of their anti-corrosion products ourselves on a regular basis! However, on the back of many requests for us to stock the range, we acquired a complete set of samples last summer and have had them on test ever since. And unsurprisingly, they’ve all performed exceptionally well, earning their place in our store and filling some notable gaps in our line-up.

Menzerna Polishing Programme

September 29th, 2015

Our newly revised Menzerna line up...

Earlier this year Menzerna announced that they were revising their labelling scheme yet again, but the good news is they’ve finally got it right! The revised product names are all unique and incorporate cut level information (where applicable), which makes it much easier to understand the range, and the newly designed labels (with colour-coding) really look the part too, which makes it easier to pick up the right bottle in the heat of the moment. To say that we’re delighted with the new scheme (formally termed the Menzerna Polishing Programme) is an understatement, as it’s eliminated potential confusion between similar products and brought the brand image right up to date with a bold, fresh look. To help you get to grips with the revised labelling (and understand its historical context) we’ve condensed everything you need to know into a short set of bullet points and a single infographic…

Introducing the Carlack range…

November 21st, 2014

Say hello to... Carlack

It’s been a little while since we last took on any new brands, mainly because we’ve been focusing on other areas of our business, but also because the car care market has become rather saturated, meaning that future decisions about what to use and stock need to be taken more carefully. However, our hand was recently forced by news from Werkstat that they have ceased production of their existing product range for the foreseeable future. The reason for this decision remains unclear, but Werkstat have advised that when products bearing their name do eventually reappear on the market they will be significantly different to those in the current range. As you might expect, we were quite upset by this news, as the team at Werkstat have been very good to us over the years, and their products have become a core part of our store.

Faced with the prospect of losing these much loved formulas, we decided that the only logical course of action for us was to get in touch with Carlack. It has long been public knowledge that many of the current Werkstat products are modified versions of popular Carlack formulas, so we figured that the likely overlap between the two ranges would probably be sufficient to fill the void about to be created by the loss of Werkstat. After a frantic month of testing, we’ve now made the decision to stock the entire Carlack line up; as we expected, there are many similarities between it and the existing Werkstat range. Accordingly, the purpose of this blog post is to formally introduce the Carlack brand to you and then outline these similarities, so as to enable you to switch over to the Carlack equivalents when your existing stocks of Werkstat products run out.

Introducing 22PLE Glass Coats…

November 30th, 2012

22PLE Glass Coats

The last of a long list of additions to our store this autumn is the 22PLE range of glass coats (made of glass, not for glass). As usual, this decision was made on the back of a period of testing, in which our own cars (Rich’s C30 and Clark’s WR1) were used as guinea pigs. Such testing not only allows us to assess the performance of new products properly, but also to determine their relative strengths and weaknesses. This is important, because it then enables us to write balanced comments in the ‘We Say’ section of the product description pages in our store, which in turn then hopefully enables you to make an informed buying decision (rather than simply being enticed by what the manufacturers marketing material says!). Although this approach is time consuming, we believe it’s the right thing to do, particularly when new technologies are involved. So, without further ado, here’s an overview of the cutting edge technology that 22PLE products use and the benefits they offer…

Introducing SCHOLL Concepts…

October 25th, 2012

SCHOLL Concepts Logo

Over the last six months we’ve taken time out from video production to complete long overdue testing of new products and finalise our new brand line up for the remainder of 2012 (fear not video fans, we have a long list of new videos planned for the winter months ahead). While the list of products we’ve tested this year is long and varied, it’s fair to say that the biggest brand we’ve been sitting on the fence about is SCHOLL Concepts. We’ve actually been playing with their range of polishes and accessories for nearly twelve months now, and it’s not been easy for us to decide what to do with them. Why? Simply because we’re rather stuck in our ways! We’ve been detailing professionally for nearly seven years now, and in all of that time the polish brand we’ve used far more than any other is Menzerna. And when you get to the point where you understand a range of polishes inside out, including all of their strengths, weaknesses and quirks, it’s not easy, or necessarily desirable, to switch to another brand. However, we have persevered in this instance, due in part to the outstanding reputation that the SCHOLL Concepts brand has acquired in recent years. What follows is a summary of what we have learnt about SCHOLL Concepts, and what we have discovered about their polishes and pads during our extended period of testing.

Introducing FLEX detailing tools…

Introducing FLEX detailing tools...

It’s been a little while since we took on any new brands, mainly because we’ve been very busy promoting the products we already stock, but also because the market for car care and detailing products has become rather saturated. As a result, when looking at new products, we now feel it’s important to take our time and have a good long think about what’s going to make long-term sense, rather than what’s going to be fashionable in the short-term. It should therefore come as no surprise to discover that we’ve been talking to FLEX for well over a year now about their rather excellent power tools, some of which have been designed specifically for the detailing market. And, now that we’ve decided to take them on and sell them, it should also come as no surprise that we’ve been quite fussy with regard to the exact model line up we’ve chosen. However, before we run through this, you may wish to know a little more about FLEX…

Introducing Auto Finesse…

Introducing a new line of car care and detailing products from Auto Finesse

Without intending to sound too downbeat, it’s fair to say that 2011 is shaping up to be a tough year. And not just in terms of the miserable summer weather; it seems that the continuing global economic problems are now affecting UK households more acutely than before. All of us at Polished Bliss have certainly felt our own purse strings stretched in recent months, and cost cutting has been the order of the day. From a business perspective, we’re certainly very aware of the need to focus on value for money in these testing times, and as a result we’ve been looking at new product lines that offer exactly that. And there is none more relevant than the brand new line up from Auto Finesse…

Meguiar’s DA Microfibre Correction System

August 5th, 2011

Meguiar's DA Microfibre Correction System

Meguiar’s have done it again. They’ve thought long and hard about a challenging issue facing the detailing community, and then broken the mould with a cutting edge solution. In this case, they’ve developed a brand new dual action polishing system that addresses the issue of serious machine polishing enthusiasts desiring the performance benefits afforded by rotary polishers (greater cutting power, sharper finishing, etc) but without the accompanying risks (excessive paint removal, burning through, hologramming, etc). This new line of products, called the Meguiar’s DA Microfibre Correction System, was released in the USA at the start of the year, but has only just made it to the UK. However, thanks to Meguiar’s UK, we’ve had samples on test since May and this trial period has provided us with a lot of valuable insight into the new products and how to get the best possible results when using them.

Introducing Wolf’s Chemicals…

April 7th, 2011

Wolf's Chemicals Car Care & Detailing Products

The last twelve months have been a very exciting time in the world of detailing. A large number of new cutting edge products have been launched and these have pushed the boundaries of what we have come to expect in performance terms. In some cases, existing standards of finish quality and durability have been extended, while in other cases entirely new methods have arisen, e.g. iron contaminant removal by chemical means. We’ve embraced this round of innovation by adopting new products into our own working routine and selecting some of the best for resale in our store. The latest product line we have adopted in this way is Wolf’s Chemicals.

Introducing Swissvax car care products…

November 30th, 2010

The Swissvax Master Collection Kit - Everything you need to maintain your car in concours condition, meticulously developed over three generations

The last eight weeks have been an exceptionally busy time at Polished Bliss, reflecting our best ever October sales (it’s great to see so many people finally taking winter preparation so seriously!) and a number of exciting additions to our store, the most surprising of which is the full range of Swissvax car care products. We say surprising, simply because the invite we received from Swissvax UK to stock the line came completely out of the blue; no doubt like everyone else, we had always assumed that Swissvax products would only be sold by Swissvax and nobody else. To say we are very happy with this change in direction by Swissvax UK is an understatement; we have long felt that our store should carry a well established, world renowned, flagship brand and Swissvax now fulfils these criteria perfectly. Furthermore, it has also been an absolute joy learning to use the full range of products in our detailing studio; the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ has never been so true, as all of the products in the range are very easy to use and deliver exceptional results, reflecting the quality and rich know how that has been developed and acquired by Swissvax over the last eighty years.

Nanotechnology car care products…

August 6th, 2010

Introducing Aquartz Car Care & Detailing Products...

Every now and again the car care rulebook is torn up and rewritten by innovative new technologies that come along and redefine what we can expect from car care and detailing products. Currently, we are in the midst of such a period of change, this time brought about by the application of nanotechnology to surface coating science. At the most basic level, nanotechnology can be defined as the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale. In relation to car care, nanotechnology can be used to make advanced protective coatings that do not just adhere to vehicle surfaces, but rather become part of the surfaces themselves. As a result, surface properties of interest and importance (such as etching resistance, scratch resistance, hydrophobicity, etc) can be altered on a semi-permanent basis; we are now moving into an era when car care coatings will truly last years rather than months.

Introducing Migliore luxury car care products…

Introducing Migliore luxury car care products...

As part of our plans for expansion in 2010, we are proud to announce that Migliore luxury car care products are now available in the store. We first made contact with Migliore last October, and shortly afterwards received a full set of test products to evaluate in our studio. Clark duly set to work, and was instantly amazed by how different these products are to most of the other lines currently out there. What exactly do we mean by different? Well, Migliore aims to help to protect the environment by creating eco-friendly products. The majority of Migliore products are made using 100% Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) ingredients, including natural waxes, fruit extracts and organic solvents, and this translates into the products having highly distinctive textures and scents. Indeed, they have a truly organic feel to them that stimulates the senses and makes them a joy to use. In addition, all Migliore products are individually hand poured and inspected for quality before leaving the factory. As the founder and CEO Donald Havourd explains, “Migliore Luxury Car Care is a company based on quality, not quantity. We have no intention of becoming a large, mass distributed, watered down, car care brand. We prefer having a tight knit circle of distributors who have vast knowledge and experience of detailing to concours standards. This allows us to interact with our distributors and customers on a one on one level. Migliore will remain a small company, and will continue to provide its customers with the best quality and service available in the industry.”
