997 GT3 RS Studio Photography

Although this spring has been our busiest on record, we simply had to make the time to detail and photograph this stunning car, as it now belongs to Clark’s dad! The car in question is a 2010 Porsche 911 (997) Gen II GT3 RS in Aqua Blue & Gold (the Gen II model differs from the earlier Gen I model by featuring a larger capacity 3.8 L Mezger flat-six engine producing an extra 35 bhp, giving a total output of 444 bhp). The RS badge, which stands for Renn Sport in German (or Race Sport in English), always excites Porsche enthusiasts, and it’s fair to say that we rather enjoyed getting to work on and photograph this car – it’s simply stunning. “It started back in April 2010 when I was at the Porsche Centre in Aberdeen. I saw an Aqua Blue & Gold Gen II GT3 RS having its PDI carried out and I thought it was stunning. I never thought that I would someday be the owner of a car like it but I am now! The search for my own car started properly in September 2013, with the following criteria; I wanted a blue and gold car, with PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes) and it had to have the Front Axle Ride-Height Lift System. I didn’t want a car that had been tracked (although that’s essentially what they were built for) and I wanted a low mileage car. This is where Clark’s brother’s life changed; he spent the next seven months on just about every internet forum in the UK trying to find me a car. Very early on in the search he did locate a blue and gold car but when I offered the owner his full asking price he decided that he wanted to keep it. The same happened with a white and red one some months later, but ultimately the colour scheme would have been a bit of a compromise, so in hindsight I’m glad my offer wasn’t accepted.

During the search Clark’s brother only uncovered four blue and gold cars, so when this one came up last month it was a case of get it bought at all costs. According to Porsche there were only 134 cars brought in to the UK; they haven’t been able to advise me of the number in each colour scheme but as there were only six options there may be no more than 22 blue and gold cars in the UK (assuming they were delivered in equal numbers). However, having only come across four blue and gold cars in the course of the search, I think it’s a lot less; it certainly seemed to me that a far greater number of white and grey cars were available. I purchased the car from the first owner down in Surrey and, like Clark did with his GT3, I had Rob from Supercar Detailing inspect the car prior to purchase. Once the deal was done I employed Car Transport Scotland to bring the car up to the Polished Bliss studio (in a covered transporter), where it then spent two weeks being pampered. It has less than 2,500 miles on the clock and just about every optional extra that I would have chosen had I bought it from new. I haven’t had the chance to drive it much yet, but based on the drive home I can already confirm that it’s rather fast and makes a hell of a noise!”

  3. @Raul Espinosa – Unfortunately we didn’t video this detail, but we do have a new showcase video coming out in the very near future – hopefully by the start of June if the editing goes well. Keep your eyes peeled!

    Cracking example of a phenomenal car I hope to own in the future! Disappointed not to see photos of the whole car in the slideshow though!

  5. @Simon Poulton Unfortunately we can’t shoot whole cars in this style just yet, as our studio is too small to set the lighting up in the necessary way (it’s tricky enough to hide the floor and walls in the shadows when working at the distances shown!).
