Werkstat Prime Acrylic

Werkstat Prime Acrylic blurs the line between polishes and sealants, since it has excellent cleaning and light polishing properties but also lays down a basecoat of sealant protection. It is one of our all time favourite paint preparation products, and is used frequently in our studio to prepare painted surfaces thoroughly for receiving multiple coats of sealant protection.

In a single application, Werkstat Prime Acrylic draws out deep-seated dirt and grime from painted surfaces and simultaneously lays down very tough acrylic polymers to form an elastic sealing layer that is perfectly primed to receive additional coats of polymer protection. We are always amazed at just how much additional dirt and grime Werkstat Prime Acrylic draws out of painted surfaces; brand new pure white microfibre applicator pads turn grey every single time we use it, even after extremely thorough claying.

A further benefit of the intensely smooth and level coating laid down by Werkstat Prime Acrylic is the finish it gives, which is best described by mirror-like reflectivity, razor sharp clarity and, on metallic and pearlescent finishes, the most intense degree of flake pop imaginable. In summary, Werkstat Prime Acrylic is a truly exceptional chemical paint cleaner that also lays down a fantastic looking basecoat of acrylic polymer protection, which is perfectly primed to receive additional coats of sealant or wax protection.

Werkstat Prime Acrylic is neither a polish nor a polymer sealant nor a wax, but a combination of cleaning and conserving agents that work together systematically to clean painted surfaces and prime them ready for subsequent coats of polymer protection. The exclusive German-made formula represents over four decades of research and development in paint protection chemistry, and all of the experience entailed.

The unique formula builds on the exceptional protective qualities of polyethylene-acrylic nano-scale polymers by incorporating intensive surface cleaners that serve to create an exceptionally smooth surface to which the protective polymers can strongly bond. By using nano-scale polymers, an unparalleled surface coating density is achieved that greatly improves resistance to environmental factors, such as heat, acid and ultraviolet radiation, and mechanical damage, such as wash-induced marring and scratching.

As a further benefit, the ultra-smooth surface coating ensures that low-angle incident light is brilliantly reflected to produce mirror-like images, while the high refractive index of the polymers allows high-angle light to refract into the finish and improve flake pop. In fact, the light transmittance of the coating laid down by Werkstat Prime Acrylic actually exceeds that of optical glass, thus ensuring that the beauty of your paint will stand out with unobstructed clarity.

Werkstat Prime Acrylic can be applied equally well by hand or dual action machine. For best results by hand, it should be applied to freshly clayed paint using a Meguiar’s Microfibre Applicator Pad. Only 3-4 pea-sized drops of product are required per panel, and these should be wiped in as firmly and evenly as possible to produce a film that should then be allowed to dry for up to 10 minutes. Once hazed over, this film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Super Buffing Towel (if the film proves difficult to remove at first, lightly mist it with Werkstat Acrylic Glos and continue buffing).

For best results using a dual action polisher, Werkstat Prime Acrylic should be applied to freshly clayed paint using a Lake Country 140 mm Constant Pressure Glazing Pad. Only 3-4 pea-sized drops of product are required per panel, and these should be worked in thoroughly at around 3000-4000 orbits per minute (speed 3-4 on most dual action machine polishers) until only a thin film remains. After being allowed to haze over for up to 10 minutes, this film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Super Buffing Towel (if the film proves difficult to remove at first, lightly mist it with Werkstat Acrylic Glos and continue buffing).
