Werkstat Carnauba Jett

Werkstat Carnauba Jett is the result of thinking outside the norms of what an automotive wax must be. The result is a high-content, micro-emulsified, refined carnauba in a waterborne base free of the solvents, fillers, abrasives, silicones and oils commonly found in other automotive waxes. Or, put more simply, the pure warm smooth gloss of a carnauba wax in a sprayable and unusually durable form. Unfortunately, much of what is advertised as carnauba wax these days is far from it. Many of these products contain exceptionally small amounts of pure carnauba and much higher proportions of petroleum solvents, fillers, oils, silicones and synthetic polymers. While none of these ingredients are necessarily bad, they are certainly not carnauba. At the Werkstat, the gurus stopped for a moment to consider the possibility of creating a pure carnauba wax product that possessed no harsh petroleum solvents, was easy to apply for a clear and streak-free gloss, and presented the pure look of carnauba with outstanding depth, colour and clarity.

The normal process of applying a carnauba wax essentially consists of over-applying the wax and then trying to remove the excess to form a smooth reflective coating. Petroleum solvents are used to soften the wax into a spreadable paste by preventing the individual wax molecules from bonding together. Once these solvents evaporate after application, a rough wax surface is left behind that is hazy and dull, and which needs to be buffed to produce a smooth reflective coating. Unfortunately, that final buffing step can be a real pain, as carnauba is the hardest natural wax in the world, so in many cases polishing powders and silicones are added to make buffing easier. However, the gurus at the Werkstat figured that there might be a better way to apply carnauba, in which the wax is applied correctly in the first place and all of the unnecessary work-arounds used in typical products are avoided.

Werkstat Carnauba Jett is the result of that innovative thinking: A fully sprayable high-content carnauba wax that is applied and buffed in one continuous additive action. A process was developed to take the highest grade Brazilian prime #1 yellow carnauba and distribute it within a water base rather than a petroleum base. This high-content low-viscosity carnauba slurry can then be sprayed directly onto the surface for easier and speedier application. As the product is spread across painted surfaces with a plush microfibre towel this carnauba slurry begins to break down. Since the individual wax molecules are naturally hydrophobic, they have a much higher affinity for the surface than for the water base. As a result, they bond to the surface while the light buffing action of the towel creates a smooth uniform wax coating.
