We have quickly become big fans of the RUPES BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System, and the pads really do complement the compounds and machines perfectly. We've read a few reviews suggesting that the extremely open-cell nature of the coarser pads poses some difficulties with unspent polish residue building up and product being slung out during use, but in our experience these issues are easy enough to avoid. Firstly, if you load the larger pads (100 mm and above) with product midway between the centering hole and the outer edge and rub it in gently before starting the machine, you'll find that no unspent polish accumulates in the centering hole during use. Secondly, if you place the machine flat on the panel and push down firmly before starting it (at the maximum speed you wish to work at) you'll find that no product is slung out of pad (even when using the coarsest option). Overall, these pads perform brilliantly and are a pleasure to use.
RUPES UHS Easy Gloss Pads are manufactured from an ultra-high quality European foam engineered specifically for scratch resistant and ultra-high solid ceramic paints. When used in conjunction with RUPES UHS Easy Gloss Compound, this foam is capable of correcting light to moderate defects and producing a high-gloss finish in just a single polishing step. Although firmer and denser than the other foams used in the RUPES BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System, this foam also features a thermally reticulated open cell structure, which not only increases the relative cutting power on offer (compared to closed cell equivalents), but also ensures that any heat generated by friction is quickly carried away and dispersed. In addition, all RUPES UHS Easy Gloss Pads feature a strongly splayed side profile with a bevelled lower edge, which maximises safety when working in hard to reach spots. Five sizes of RUPES UHS Easy Gloss Pads are currently available, which perfectly complements the current range of RUPES random orbital polishers.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don't be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Clean Boost solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) while not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
