We have quickly become big fans of the RUPES BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System, and the colour coded pads really do complement the compounds and machines perfectly. We've read a few reviews suggesting that the centering hole and extremely open-celled nature of the coarser pads poses some difficulties with unspent polish residue building up and product being slung out during use, but in our experience these issues are very easy to avoid. Firstly, if you load each pad with product midway between the centering hole and the outer edge and rub it in gently before starting the machine you'll find that no unspent polish accumulates in the centering hole during use. Secondly, if you place the machine flat on the panel and push down firmly before starting it (at the maximum speed you wish to work at) you'll find that no product is slung out of pad (even when using the coarsest option). Overall, these pads perform brilliantly and are a pleasure to use.
RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Polishing Pads are manufactured using ultra high quality European foams engineered specifically for compounding, polishing and finishing all forms of modern paint systems in conjunction with the RUPES LHR 75E Mini BigFoot Polisher. These foams all feature a thermally reticulated open cell structure, which not only increases the relative cutting power of the pads (compared to closed cell equivalents), but also ensures that any heat generated by friction is quickly carried away and dispersed. In addition, all RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Polishing Pads feature a centering hole and a strongly splayed side profile with a bevelled lower edge, which maximises safety when working in hard to reach spots. Four grades of RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Polishing Pads are available, which are designed (and colour coded) to perfectly complement the four standard polishing compounds that feature in the RUPES BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
