RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pads are an exceptional addition to the already excellent BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System, and extend the boundaries of what is possible in terms of paint correction using BigFoot machines. Unlike other microfibre pads, which typically comprise a layer of soft foam sandwiched between the fastening material and the microfibre facing, RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pads are constructed using injection-moulded polyurethane, which gives them a firmer, more purposeful, feel. In use, this unique design translates into excellent cutting performance on all paint types, which in turn speeds the paint correction process up. Interestingly, the choice of microfibre facings is not only spot on in terms of cutting and finishing performance, but also in terms of how easy they are to clean; some microfibre pads clog very quickly, resulting in diminished performance, but this is not the case with the RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pads. And, unlike their rivals, they remain easy to spur with a PB Utility Brush, which is a welcome benefit.
RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pads are manufactured using a patented moulding process in which a polyurethane resin is injected directly into a bevelled mould delineated by the hook and loop fastening material and the microfibre fabric itself. As a result, the resin adheres directly to both materials to form a stable and secure bond without the use of adhesives. Once the moulding process is complete, each RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pad is then die-cut to produce evenly spaced spiral slots and a centering hole. The purpose of these slots is not only to form an efficient airflow pathway for effective heat dissipation, but also to lighten the weight of the pad and thus better balance it on the machine. Furthermore, the innovative spiral design also helps to ensure controlled and even spreading of the polishing compound on the paint surface. Two grades of RUPES 100 mm BigFoot Microfibre Pads are available, which are designed (and colour coded) to perfectly complement two of the polishing compounds in the RUPES BigFoot Random Orbital Polishing System (Zephir Gloss and Keramik Gloss).
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
