4. Cookies issued by our website

4.1. Cookies are small text files that websites create and send to your computer or mobile device as you browse online. These files typically store information that the issuing websites will recall and reuse as you continue browsing or when you visit them again at a later date. For example, when you shop online, a cookie may be used to store the order value and item count in the basket as you shop. The same website may also use a cookie to store anonymous information about your visit, such the page you land on, what other pages you then go on to view, and whether or not you are a returning visitor. Usually, the type of information stored by cookies is harmless and only used to enhance your online browsing experience. However, sometimes cookies are used for less innocent purposes, such as keeping track of the websites you go on to visit for third party profiling and targeted advertising purposes. Consequently, when you visit websites, you should be told which cookies are going to be issued, and for what exact purposes. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive is now UK law, and takes this a step further by requiring your consent before any non-essential cookies are issued.

4.2. Our website (www.polishedbliss.co.uk) is built and run with Actinic shopping cart software, which sends a number of cookies to your computer or mobile device every time you visit us online. These first party cookies (i.e. issued by the polishedbliss.co.uk domain) have the following names and functions:

(a) ACTINIC_CART - This cookie stores details of all of the items you add to the basket as you shop, and expires 3 hours after being issued;
(b) CART_CONTENT - This cookie stores the item count and order value in the basket summary box as you shop, and expires 3 hours after being issued;
(c) ACTINIC_BUSINESS - This cookie stores information if customer accounts are used (currently they are not), and expires when you close your browser;
(d) ACTINI_REFERRER - This cookie tracks your navigation through our website in order to return you to the last page you visited after you complete the checkout process, and expires 3 hours after being issued;
(e) detailtabs - This cookie tracks your navigation through our website in order to ensure that the open product information tab on each new product page you visit is the same as the last product information tab you viewed on the previous product page you visited, and expires when you close your browser;
(f) SECTSORTTYPE - This cookie controls the sort tool on the product summary pages and tracks your navigation through our website in order to ensure that the sort view on each new product summary page you visit matches that which you selected on the previous product summary page you visited, and expires when you close your browser.

All of the above cookies are essential to the normal running of our website in terms of navigation and ordering, and as such their issue does not require your consent. Indeed, if you set your web browser to decline these cookies then you will be unable to place an order with us or navigate our website properly. Our website also issues the following non-essential first party cookies:

(f) _utma - This cookie enables us to save anonymous data about the number of unique visitors our website receives to our private Google Analytics account, and expires 2 years after being issued;

(i) _utmz - This cookie enables us to save anonymous data about the referral path you took to our website to our private Google Analytics account, and expires 6 months after being issued.

The law now requires us to gain your consent before issuing the above cookies to your computer or mobile device. Unfortunately, the current Google Analytics code we use cannot be switched on and off on our website with the press of a button on-screen. Therefore, until such time that we can implement a technical on-screen solution, if you do not consent to being issued with these cookies, please set your browser to decline them (you will continue to be able to view and use our site normally).

4.3. In addition to the first party cookies specified above, our website may also send non-essential third party cookies (i.e. from domains other than polishedbliss.co.uk) to your computer or mobile device every time you visit us online. These third party cookies are all associated with external services we use to enhance your online browsing experience, and have the following sources, names and functions:

Therefore, until such time that we can implement a technical on-screen solution, if you do not consent to being issued with these cookies, please set your browser to decline them (you will continue to be able to view and use our site normally).
