Congratulations to Alan Jenkinson of Attleborough for winning our October show n shine. This car used to belong to Alan's cousin, and was used to transport her children around for the last couple of years. After buying the car for his girlfriend, Alan set about trying to improve the various scrapes and general dullness afflicting most of the major panels, albeit with a little help from said girlfriend! The first step in the process was to pressure wash away all of the loose dirt and grime, and then wash the exterior surfaces thoroughly using Meguiars Hyper Wash and wash mitts. While Alan did this, his girlfriend used a small detailing brush to remove moss and algae from the rubber window trims. Then, while his girlfriend kept the car wet with the hose, Alan clayed the bodywork to remove all traces of bonded surface contaminants. After drying off, Alan then rolled his sleeves up and hand polished the paint using Menzerna Intensive Polish and a German Applicator Pad in order to remedy the dullness and improve the appearance of the various scrapes.
After a few hours of hard graft, Aland sealed the finish with a coat of Menzerna Acrylic Jacket, and then did a final wipe down with Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield to remove any smearing. Finally, the tyres were dressed with Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel. Alan comments, "After I'd done all this the paintwork really did look like new and I'm very surprised at the result I got without using any electrical machinery or technical processes. Even the places that were scraped looked so much better to the point where you'd have to look hard for the flaws. Hey, even the dent on the front wing was shining!". We agree, Alan has indeed done a fantastic job. The fact that all of the work was done by hand, coupled with the mirror like reflectivity of the final finish, makes him a very worthy winner. Well done Alan!
