Where on earth do we begin with this one?! Nanolex WashCoat is an innovative new product that has thrown a spanner in the works for retailers, as it doesn't sit comfortably into existing categories of car care. A quick search online reveals that many traders are classifying it as a pre-wash product or a snow foam, but the fact is, it is neither! Rather, it is a synthetic sealant suitable for all exterior surfaces, with the major difference between it and other sealants being the method of application; Nanolex WashCoat is designed to be foamed or sprayed on to clean, wet surfaces and then rinsed off. No wiping or buffing is needed; it truly is the first spray on rinse off sealant in our store! And if that isn't enough, it's also the first product that makes a noise as it works (think fizzing!).
Now that we've correctly established what it is, the question remains; is it any good? Well, clearly it is (otherwise you wouldn't be reading this!), but it's important to judge it based on what it's meant to do, rather than in terms of what sealants usually do. The key thing to note is that it's designed to top up existing protection, rather than to be used as a standalone product. This is because the protection it imparts has a lifespan of just 6 - 8 weeks, and does not offer as much resistance to the elements as normal sealants. Thus, it is very much a maintenance product, but one that can be applied quickly and easily in all conditions, which makes it a phenomenal proposition for use in the UK, where the weather always seems to try its best to scupper everyone's detailing plans!
Nanolex WashCoat is a clever spray on rinse off synthetic sealant designed to be applied after hand washing, i.e. between the final rinse and drying off. Because it goes on to wet panels it is quick and easy to use; treating a whole car takes only minutes to do. Nanolex WashCoat can be applied using either a foam lance or a pump sprayer. It needs to be left on the car for 1-2 minutes, and then fully rinsed off before towel drying or further rinsing with pure water (if you intend to leave the car to dry naturally). In terms of usage rates, you should use 50 ml of product for the first application, and then 20 ml for all subsequent top ups (it is fully compatible with all synthetic sealants and waxes, just like Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo).
It's very important to note that the concentrate needs to be diluted right before use, as the resulting mixture tends to become unstable and less effective after just a couple of hours. Durability is around 6 -8 weeks per application, or four normal wash cycles if you wash more frequently. However, if you use Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo during each wash then its durability will be prolonged. As a direct result of using Nanolex WashCoat, gloss is visibly enhanced and surfaces become smoother and thus easier to clean. It's ideal for use in the winter months as it's quick and easy to apply, and the curing time is minimal; ambient conditions do not affect how it works, so as long as your water isn't frozen solid then you're good to use it.
For best results, Nanolex WashCoat should be applied to completely clean, wet surfaces at the end of your usual full wash process. You may apply it using either a pressure sprayer or a foam lance; both methods yield equally good results. Nanolex WashCoat is supplied in concentrated form, and must be diluted appropriately immediately before use (the mixed solution becomes unstable and far less effective after just a couple of hours, so always make up a fresh solution every time you use it). Use 50 ml of product in 500 ml of water for the initial application and 20 ml of product in 500 ml of water for all subsequent top up applications thereafter. Spray the diluted solution onto all exterior surfaces as evenly as possible and then leave it to dwell for 1-2 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly. Be sure to rinse away every last trace of residue and then towel the car dry, or else rinse it again with filtered water if you intend to leave it to dry naturally.
