Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant is a new product from Nanolex, developed in response to matt effect paint and vinyl wraps becoming increasingly popular in recent years. Given that matt effect finishes are easily damaged by conventional paint sealants and waxes (which are fundamentally designed to enhance gloss), Nanolex have formulated a new nanotechnology coating that offers long-lasting protection and enhanced water repellency without degrading the underlying matt effect. Developed in Germany, Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant lays down an invisible micro-film that not only provides excellent protection against bird droppings, bug splatter, brake dust and harmful UV radiation, but which also beads very strongly and thus partially mimics the self-cleaning properties of Lotus leaves in nature (the Lotus Effect).
Of course, while nature has long since perfected the Lotus Effect, the key question here is how well does this new coating perform in this respect on cars? The answer is very well. In tests on several matt effect cars (both painted and wrapped) that we routinely detail, we have found that treated surfaces do indeed stay cleaner for longer compared to untreated surfaces. However, this effect is by no means perfect due to the need to balance performance with durability, so hand washing is still required on a semi-regular basis. In our experience, Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant delivers an unobtrusive finish that fully preserves the original matt look. All of the above benefits make it a compelling choice of protection for owners of vehicles with matt effect finishes, and one that we highly recommend for professional use.
Conventional paint sealants and waxes should not be used on matt paint finishes and matt vinyl wraps, as they contain gloss enhancing agents that can permanently damage the matt effect. Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant is a nanotechnology coating designed specifically to protect matt surfaces for upwards of twelve months at a time. Developed in Germany, it uses a wet sol-gel delivery technique to lay down a unique blend of nano-scale components to form a fully transparent micro-film that chemically bonds to treated surfaces at the molecular level. As a result, Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant provides long-lasting protection against bird droppings, bug splatter, brake dust, road salt and harmful UV radiation without degrading the matt effect.
However, the benefits imparted by Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant do not end with very impressive durability and a very high level of protection against the elements. Perhaps even more importantly, treated surfaces become slicker feeling and strongly hydrophobic (water-hating). This not only results in impressive beading upon contact with water, but also encourages a degree of self-cleaning (strong hydrophobicity results in more contaminants being picked up and carried away by rainfall and runoff rather than being deposited in situ, akin to the Lotus Effect in nature). This characteristic causes the bodywork to stay cleaner looking for much longer, extending the intervals between routine washes and reducing the need for regular maintenance.
Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant should be applied in a warm, dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight. To protect your skin, we recommend wearing PB Nitrile Gloves during the application process. To achieve the expected performance benefits associated with Nanolex Ultra MATTE Surface Sealant, it is necessary to properly clean the surfaces to be treated in advance with Nanolex EX, as this ensures that all traces of residual grease and grime, along with other unwanted oils and old product residues, are removed (the cleaner the surface is before the coating is applied, the longer the protective micro-film will last).
Before applying the coating, shake the bottle vigorously to ensure that the contents are fully mixed. Next, lightly wet a Nanolex Cotton Applicator Pad with product and begin wiping it evenly over the surfaces to be treated. The resulting film should be left to dry for no longer than 5 minutes before being buffed off with a Nanolex Microfibre Buffing Towel, so we recommend treating no more than 1-2 panels (or a single wheel) in one go. The coating must then be allowed to cure for a minimum of 24 hours before being exposed to the elements (please note that you should avoid washing the car for a minimum of 72 hours following application).
