Working with coatings can be stressful at times, particularly on extremely soft paint types that mar very easily. In our experience, very few coatings are easy to use on soft paint finishes, as coating residues are typically tacky and require more buffing effort than soft paint types can safely tolerate (in terms of becoming marred). Nanolex Si3D is the best of the bunch in this respect, as it requires less buffing effort than any of the other coatings we currently stock. However, Nanolex have now gone one step further, and developed a basecoat for it that is even easier to apply, and which lays down an extremely hard coating that reduces the risk of inflicting marring when the topcoat of Si3D is applied. This basecoat, dubbed Nanolex Si3D BC, comprises wholly inorganic siloxane polymers that prime sensitive surfaces with an exceptionally dense yet highly flexible layer of SiO2. Nanolex Si3D BC is simple to apply, doesn't need to be left to turn tacky before it is removed, and buffs off quickly and cleanly with almost zero effort. As a result, it's refreshingly easy to apply to soft paint types, and makes the subsequent application of Nanolex Si3D easier and worry-free.
Nanolex Si3D BC is a primer coating that is designed to serve as a basecoat for Nanolex Si3D. Developed in Germany, it uses the latest in low volatile content silicon (Si) technology to lay down a film of siloxane polymers that condense rapidly to form an extremely hard yet highly flexible SiO2 coating that bonds to painted surfaces at the molecular level. In contrast to many silica-based coatings, Nanolex Si3D BC increases in molecular weight as it cures, forming amorphous layers with exceptional chemical and scratch resistance. Very few of the other SiO2-based coatings we stock work in the same way or are as structurally dense (and thus as resistant to physical and chemical attack) as Nanolex Si3D BC. As a result, Nanolex Si3D has a life expectancy of 3-5 years, even on daily drivers. And, unlike many silica-based coatings, Nanolex Si3D BC features a safe, non-aggressive carrier solvent that flashes off very slowly, which not only guarantees compatibility with freshly painted surfaces and more sensitive paint types (including extremely soft finishes and single stage finishes), but also makes the application process easier and less problematic.
You should apply Nanolex Si3D BC in a warm, dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight. For your comfort and protection, we recommend wearing PB Nitrile Gloves and a 3M Respirator during the application process. In all cases, prepare the surfaces you are going to treat in the normal way (wash > decontaminate > polish), and then do a wipe down with Nanolex EX to ensure that they are spotlessly clean. Next, using a Nanolex Si3D Applicator Towel wrapped around a Nanolex Si3D Applicator Block, spread an even layer of Nanolex Si3D BC on to the first 18" x 18" section of bodywork, using light pressure and 3-4 overlapping strokes. Then, using a Nanolex Microfiber Buffing Towel, gently buff off the (still wet) residue as quickly as possible, i.e. before it dries out and begins to harden. Before moving on, check the section carefully for any smears (using a bright light) and remove them; missed ones will harden to the point of being impossible to remove without machine polishing, so make sure you are thorough!
After all of the bodywork is treated the car must then be left in a warm, dry place out of direct sunlight for a minimum of an hour in order to allow the coating to harden. Note that in order for the coating to harden properly it must remain completely dry during this period (also note that heating it with an infra-red heat lamp isn't recommended, as this will not speed up the hardening process). After an hour has passed, you can either apply a second coat (if you have time this is highly recommended) or move on to applying the topcoat of Nanolex Si3D. Please note that you must discard all used applicator towels and buffing towels after each application, because Nanolex Si3D BC hardens massively as it cures, forming a residue that has the potential to inflict severe marring or worse if applicators and towels are re-used. Please also note that the quoted shelf life of Nanolex Si3D BC is between 3-6 weeks once the bottle is opened, although this can be extended to 2-3 months if it is stored in a refrigerator.
