Nanolex NanoWax

A further benefit of the intensely smooth and level coating laid down by NanoWax is the awesome finish it gives, which is best described as being characterised by a liquid-like level of glossiness combined with a jaw dropping degree of colour jetting and (where present) flake pop. Nanolex NanoWax is a creamy, water-based chemical nanotechnology coating that simultaneously enhances and protects the appearance of automotive paint. Developed in Germany, Nanolex NanoWax combines clustered nano-abrasives with waxes and nanotechnology additives to revive weathered paint finishes and lay down an extremely thin, fully transparent wax coating that chemically bonds to painted surfaces at the molecular level.

As a result of this treatment, painted surfaces become super hydrophobic (contact angle > 150°) and partially self cleaning (super hydrophobicity results in more contaminants being picked up and carried away by strong water beading rather than deposited in situ, akin to the Lotus Effect in nature). This characteristic greatly reduces the need for regular maintenance, and makes washing easier and less time consuming when required.

However, the benefits imparted by Nanolex NanoWax do not end with an easy to care for mirror-like finish. More importantly, the invisible wax coating provides excellent protection against bird droppings, bug splatter, brake dust, road salt and harmful UV radiation for up to six months at a time, even on daily drivers (the coating is extremely resistant to strong detergents and pressure washing equipment).

Working in a dry environment out of direct sunlight, lightly wet a Meguiar’s Microfibre Applicator Pad with product and begin wiping evenly over the surfaces to be treated using light pressure. Nanolex NanoWax is designed to buff off easily even as it begins to cure, so we recommend treating the entire car or all four wheels in one go. Buffing off is best done with a PB Super Buffing Towel using light pressure in order to fully remove all traces of residue and reveal an intense streak-free shine.

Nanolex NanoWax can also be applied to great effect using a dual action machine polisher. If this method is chosen, it should be applied to freshly clayed paint using a Lake Country 140 mm Constant Pressure Glazing Pad. Only 3-4 pea-sized drops of product are required per panel, and these should be worked in thoroughly at around 3000-4000 orbits per minute (speed 3-4 on most dual action machine polishers) until only a thin film remains. After being allowed to haze over for up to 10 minutes, this film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Super Buffing Towel.

Although Nanolex NanoWax offers excellent protection against the elements for up to six months at a time, the resulting finish should still be maintained carefully. For example, strong shampoos and intensive wheel cleaners should be avoided in favour of milder pH neutral products (Nanolex Reactivating Shampoo is excellent in this respect), and the microfilm finish should occasionally be repaired and refreshed with either a top up application or by quick detailing with Nanolex Premium Spray Sealant after routine washing and drying.
