Menzerna has been making abrasive polishing compounds and automotive polishing pads since 1888, and stands today as Germany's largest and most respected manufacturer of automotive polishing products. We have directly used and tested all of the Menzerna polishing pads that are currently available, and it was not a difficult decision to put them all into the store. What we like best about these pads is the nature of the foams used; all are non-reticulated, meaning that they are dense and have a high degree of mechanical cut. This makes a huge difference when polishing modern scratch-resistant clearcoats and harder conventional clearcoats such as those found on many older German-made cars, particularly when using dual action machine polishers. The only downside to this is that non-reticulated foams clog more easily, and are prone to fracturing and splitting if deformed greatly under load when wet with polish. Accordingly, these pads need to be treated with care if they are to last, and should be spurred and swapped more frequently than is usually the case with softer, thermally reticulated pads.
This pick and mix kit allows you to choose 6 x Menzerna 80 mm Spot Pads of your choice and offers a 30% saving over buying the included pads separately. The following grades of pad are available...
Compounding Pad (White)
This pad has an aggressive cutting action that will remove deeper scratches, serious swirl marks and heavy oxidation when used in conjunction with heavy polishing compounds.
Polishing Pad (Orange)
This pad has a moderate cutting action that will remove less serious swirl marks and restore a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with light polishing compounds and finishing polishes.
Finishing Pad (Yellow)
This pad has a light cutting action that will remove marring and faint swirl marks and restore a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with finishing polishes.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that spent polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a Meguiar’s Triple Duty Detailing Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
