Meguiar's are one of the world's largest and most respected manufacturers of automotive polishing products, and we have been users of their products for longer than we ourselves have been in business. If you ever take a look at their website, you will be amazed at the sheer range of specialist polishing products they have available, many of which reflect the high degree of innovation that Meguiar's brings to the marketplace. At the start of 2009, Meguiar's released a brand new cutting compound that has once again moved the game on and set a new standard of excellence in the marketplace. In simple terms, right now Meguiar's Ultra Cut Compound (#105) is the best aggressive cutting compound currently available on the market, and is a pure joy to use in situations where major paint correction is required on harder paint types. In the time since it was first released, it has seen more use in our studio than any other polishing compound and has become an essential part of our line up that we could now not be without.
Meguiar's Ultra Cut Compound (#105) is a new fast acting liquid abrasive that is designed to permanently remove major paint defects such as severe swirl marks, deep scratches and acid etching from original and refinished paintwork and leave a superior high gloss finish ready for final polishing. Comprising a unique blend of precision-milled non-diminishing micro-abrasives, Meguiar's Ultra Cut Compound (#105) offers distinct advantages in terms of finish quality and work time, and performs equally well whether used in conjunction with dual action or rotary machine polishers, making it ideal for both home and professional use.
Meguiar’s Ultra Cut Compound (#105) should only be applied by machine. For best results using a dual action polisher, it should be applied to freshly clayed paint using a Lake Country 140 mm Hydro-Tech Cutting Pad. Only 3-4 pea-sized drops of product are required per 18” x 18” area, and these should be worked in thoroughly at around 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) until only a thin film remains. This film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Super Buffing Towel. For best results using a rotary polisher, Meguiar’s Ultra Cut Compound (#105) should be applied to freshly clayed paint using either a Lake Country 140 mm Hydro-Tech Cutting Pad or, in cases where even more cut is required, either of the wool pads in the Lake Country wool pad line. Only 1-2 pea-sized drops of product are required per 18” x 18” area, and these should be worked in thoroughly at around 1500-2000 revolutions per minute (speed 3-4 on most rotary polishers) using the zenith method until only a thin film remains. This film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Super Buffing Towel. In all cases, the compounding process should be completed and the finish then further refined using Meguiar’s Ultra Finishing Polish (#205).
