Meguiar's Dual Action Backing Plates

Machine polishing pads and backing plates are usually fully interchangeable between different manufacturers, but in the case of Meguiar’s, their latest lines of Soft Buff Pads and DA Microfibre Discs have specific fitting requirements in terms of sizing and fastening material compatibility that only their own backing plates can meet. Failure to pay attention to these requirements when using Meguiar’s machine polishing pads may result in sub-standard polishing performance and overheating of the pads. To avoid such problems, only use Meguiar’s backing plates with Meguiar’s pads.

Meguiar’s Dual Action Backing Plates are constructed from flexible polyurethane (PU) and have an excellent standard of build quality. The steel 5/16 UNF threaded post fits many popular dual action machine polishers, including the Meguiar's G220 V2 and the Kestrel DAS-6, while the proprietary, ultra-fine hook and loop fastening material enables easy pad exchanges with all machine polishing pads in the Meguiar’s line. Three different sizes of backing plate are available, to facilitate use with the full range of Meguiar’s machine polishing pads we stock.

General usage notes: (i) always switch off your machine at the mains before fitting or removing a backing plate; (ii) always ensure that you tighten the backing plate sufficiently, but without over tightening it – a half turn of the spanner after it first pinches tight is usually sufficient for safe and effective use, and; (iii) always use an appropriate sized backing plate for the pad you are using – the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around.
