Meguiar’s recently updated their machine polishing pad lines, building in new design features and high-tech materials. For example, all of the Meguiar’s 100 mm Soft Buff Spot Pads now feature a shaped profile and recessed edge to the backing material that together ensure full edge protection when polishing in tight spots. Compared to traditional hook and loop backings, the ultra-fine backing material used for Meguiar’s 100 mm Soft Buff Spot Pads offers much greater durability and can also be safely machine washed time and time again with no fear of delamination occurring. Unfortunately, this brings about a minor downside in that only a compatible Meguiar’s backing plate should be used with these pads, otherwise excessive heating up can occur. A small price to pay for the excellent quality and performance benefits on offer.

Cutting Pad (Burgundy)
This pad has a heavy cutting action that will remove light scratches, severe swirl marks and heavy oxidation when used in conjunction with strong cutting compounds.
Polishing Pad (Yellow)
This pad has a light cutting action that will remove minor swirl marks and restore a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with light polishing compounds and finishing polishes.
Finishing Pad (Black)
This pad has a very slight cutting and cleaning action and is therefore ideal for applying glazes and enhancing surface gloss prior to adding wax or sealant protection.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
