Congratulations to Mike Murphy of Stirling for winning our March show n shine. With his wife away at work and the Easter weekend all to himself, he seized the bull by the horns and decided to banish accumulated over-winter grime and polish his Subaru Impreza WRX with his new Meguiars G220 Dual Action Polishing Machine. Fresh out of the tuning shop after having had some engine upgrades fitted and a remap, the engine bay was sorted out first with a thorough wash followed by an application of Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh to the polished metal surfaces and a coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant on the plastic surfaces and rubber hoses. The end result - very bling indeed!

Next the exterior of the car was tackled by washing using the two bucket method and a lambswool wash mitt, and then by claying, which although previously done only last autumn, was already badly in need of being done again! With the paint decontaminated, Mike rinsed off once more before drying everything off using a Meguiars Water Magnet drying towel. After this, it was onto the wheels and brakes, and since fitting a Brembo GT big brake kit, Mike admits he loves cleaning his big red callipers... boys and their toys eh?! After washing off the grime, the rims were polished and sealed using Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh and Poorboys Wheel Sealant respectively. Before polishing the bodywork with the G220, Mike gave the interior a quick wipe down with Poorboys Natural Look Dressing. It wasn't that dirty to begin with, so no before pictures were taken, but the afters show what a nice place it is to be! The interior detail was completed by cleaning the glass with Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner.

Back onto the exterior part of the detail, and Mike taped up all of the trims and window rubbers ready for machine polishing. Then it was on to the enjoyable bit, the machine polishing itself. For anyone thinking about buying one, the G220 is a superb bit of kit and, as long as you're sensible, is a real joy to use and gives great results. After polishing all of the bodywork with Menzerna 106FA on Lake Country CCS Polishing Pads, Mike sealed the paint with a coat of Blackfire Midnight Sun Paste Wax. He then completed the detail by dressing all of the exterior trims with Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer and polishing the exhaust tip with Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh. Whilst Mike is clearly a dab hand at detailing, he reports that the effort left him "utterly knackered", so back to the day job he went for a well earned rest! Well done Mike on a job well done!
