The short version as to why we like Lake Country 75 mm Hydro-Tech Pads so much is as follows; they are easy to use, deliver excellent results on all paint types and are perfectly sized for working in small hard to reach spots with a 70 mm dual action polisher backing plate (or the standard 75 mm backing plate size available for rotary polishers). However, there is more to these pads and our preference for using them. Firstly, they comprise foams with a closed cell structure, which prevents compounds and polishes from being absorbed into them during use. By ensuring that the product stays sandwiched between the pad and the panel being polished, cutting efficiency is maximised and full product breakdown is more readily achieved. Secondly, by eschewing gimmicks and sticking with a traditional flat design, Lake Country 75 mm Hydro-Tech Pads prevent unspent product from being unwittingly stored and released with variable pressure inputs. In simple terms, this makes it quicker and easier to achieve full product break-down and thus perfect marr-free results.
Lake Country 75 mm Hydro-Tech Pads are manufactured using ultra high quality foams, and are ideal for compounding, polishing and finishing all forms of modern paint systems. All of the pads in the range utilise dense, pre-polymer, non-reticulated foams with a closed cell structure, which helps to prevent compounds and polishes from being absorbed into the pad. As a result, all of the pads in the range hold product where it is needed most, i.e. between the pad and the panel being polished, and therefore maximise cutting efficiency. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned detailer, these pads will yield consistently excellent results. All of the Lake Country 75 mm Hydro-Tech Pads feature a durable hook and loop fastening material that enables quick and easy pad changes. However, this backing material is not chamfered (so as to allow use on 75 mm backing plates) so you must exercise care during use and avoid making edge contact with adjacent surfaces (or mask them off). Three different grades of pad are currently available in the range.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
