Compounding, polishing and finishing soft, thin paint finishes using a dual action machine polisher requires very careful polish and pad selection if defect free results are to be obtained and too much paint removal avoided. Lake Country Constant Pressure Pads offer a number of distinct advantages in soft paint situations. Firstly, all of the pads in the line are thermally reticulated with an open cell structure, which allows air to circulate freely and thus reduce heat build-up caused by friction; this limits the level of cut each pad offers, helping to prevent excessive paint removal.
Secondly, all of the pads incorporate a super soft layer of blue foam sandwiched between the main foam layer and the backing plate. This flexible layer absorbs unintentional tilting actions, and ensures constant, uniform pressure is always applied to the surface being polished. In novice hands, and on soft paints, this means that the effects of the polishing process are more even, and that transitioning over awkward curves and sharp swage lines is safer and more comfortable. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned detailer, these pads have a lot to offer in soft paint situations.
This pick and mix kit allows you to choose 6 x Lake Country 100 mm Constant Pressure Pads of your choice and offers a 5% saving over buying the included pads separately. The following grades of pad are available...
Light Cut Pad (Orange)
This pad has a moderate cutting action that will remove less serious swirl marks and restore a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with light polishing compounds and finishing polishes.
Polishing Pad (Green)
This pad has a light cutting action that will remove marring and faint swirl marks and restore a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with finishing polishes.
Glazing Pad (Black)
This pad has no cutting or cleaning action and is used for applying glazes and enhancing surface gloss prior to adding wax or sealant protection.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
