Congratulations to Kevin Murray for winning our June show n shine. Kevin has been pretty busy of late, working long hours offshore during the week and detailing a car each weekend. This Mitsubishi Evo VIII was booked in by a friend for a much needed protection detail, and knowing that the car had never been detailed before, Kevin knew his work was going to be cut out. The detail commenced with a thick blanket of foam being applied using an HD Foam Lance and Meguiars Hyper Wash. Whilst this was left to dwell and start dissolving the surface grime, Kevin filled his wash buckets. After rinsing the foam off, he then cleansed the arches and shuts using Meguiars Super Degreaser and a detailing brush, and the wheels using a mild shampoo and a selection of mitts and brushes. Kevin then applied Autosmart Tardis to the lower half of the car to break down the tar spots, and rinsed again thoroughly before washing the bodywork by hand using wash mitts and the two bucket method. After a final rinse off, the exterior was pat dried with a Poorboys Waffle Weave Towel.
Using Meguiars Detailing Clay Mild and Meguiars Last Touch as a lubricant, Kevin then worked his way around the car removing a significant amount of bonded grime that would otherwise have remained in place despite thorough washing and the use of the tar and glue remover. With the panels now feeling perfectly smooth and looking a lot brighter, Kevin applied a protective coat of Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection. This product is a dream to use on soft paint finishes, as it goes on and off very easily with minimal buffing off effort. With the paint now looking spot on, Kevin finished up by sealing the wheels with Poorboys Wheel Sealant, dressing the tyres with Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel and polishing the exhaust tip with Autosol. The owner of the car was over the moon with the results, and even a brief shower at the time of taking the final pictures couldn't hide the massive difference in the look of the paint. Well done Kev, a job well done mate!
