Show n Shine > January '08

Congratulations to Gavin Booth of Aberdeen for winning our January show n shine. This detail was done as a favour for his brother, to see his car through the rest of the winter. Upon arrival Gavin found the car covered in a thick winter film of grime and road salt, along with heavy tar and brake dust contamination on the wheels. The latter were tackled first, using Meguiars Wheel Brightener cut 4:1 and a selection of mitts and brushes. Autoglym Tar & Glue Remover was used to subsequently remove the tar, and a mild Meguiars clay bar was finally used to remove more persistent contamination using Meguiars Last Touch as a lubricant. Cleaning the wheels took two hours in total! Gavin then moved onto the full wash stage and foamed the car using his Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun and Meguiars Hyper Wash. With most of the grime sufficiently loosened, he then washed the exterior surfaces carefully by hand using Meguiars Shampoo Plus in conjunction with the two bucket method and wash mitts.

After rinsing, the bodywork was cleansed further using a mild Sonus clay bar and Meguiars Last Touch in order to remove any remaining surface contamination. After rinsing again, the car was dried off using a leaf blower and a waffle weave towel. The paint was then glazed using Zymol HD-Cleanse and protected with a coat of Zymol Carbon; both products were applied using German Applicator Pads and buffed off using Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towels. The wheels were then sealed for the rest of the winter with a coat of Poorboys Wheel Sealant, the trims were treated with Swissvax Protection and the tyres were dressed to a nice satin finish. The bodywork was then given a final wipe down with Meguiars Last Touch to leave a perfect smear free finish. The results of this mid winter protection detail speak for themselves; a very glossy and reflective looking finish that will protect against grime and road salt for the remainder of the winter. Nice work Gavin, well done mate!
