GYEON Q2 TIRE is one of a very small number of SiO2-based rubber sealants available, and redefines what we can expect from products designed for tyres. Unlike traditional tyre dressings, which sit on the surface of the tyre and quickly get washed off, GYEON Q2 TIRE penetrates the surface and bonds to the rubber at the molecular level. As a result, it is far more durable, and should thus be viewed as a tyre protectant rather than a dressing. We tested it on our daily drivers over the first half of 2013, and found that each application typically lasts for a minimum of four weeks, although this can be extended to six weeks plus if two coats are applied at the outset.
GYEON Q2 TIRE is a unique rubber sealant comprising dimethylsiloxane polymers suspended in a base of hydrotreated light distillates. These distillates serve as a bonding agent, as they are able to penetrate the rubber and adhere to it, forming an ideal surface for the dimethylsiloxane polymers to bond to. Once applied, these polymers condense rapidly to form a flexible SiO2 coating that bonds to the rubber at the molecular level. The viscosity of the carrier gel enables precise application and minimises the risk of sling being thrown onto adjacent body panels. Treated tyres retain a rich satin black finish that lasts wash after wash for many weeks at a time.
For best results, tyres must be spotlessly clean and completely dry before use; we recommend scrubbing them with a multi-purpose cleaner and then wiping them down with GYEON Q2M PREP once dry. Only 2-3 squirts of GYEON Q2 TIRE are required per tyre, and these should be spread around the tyre as thinly and evenly as possible using either a Meguiar’s Foam Applicator Pad or a Flexipads Tyre Dressing Applicator Pad. Once on, leave to dry completely before driving. To speed this process up, and to maximise the SiO2 coating’s durability, you may wish to force cure it with a heat gun (on minimum heat) or a hairdryer (set to maximum heat).
