The use of a generous layer of instant rebound foam in the construction of these backing plates provides superb performance benefits, but users should be aware that this design is not as resistant to extreme twisting forces as more rigid backing plate designs. Accordingly, users should ensure that machine speed is limited to 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) and that only light pressure is applied to the head of the machine. If you exceed these boundaries (e.g. by working at 5000+ orbits per minute using moderate or heavy pressure for long periods) there is a significant risk of the foam layer tearing or delaminating, with potentially catastrophic results. Please use these backing plates as the designer intended and adjust your method accordingly!
Gloss It Dual Action Backing Plates are made from impact resistant synthetic nylon bonded to a generous layer of instant rebound foam, and are ideal for use with 5/16 UNF threaded dual action machine polishers such as the Meguiar's G220 and the Kestrel DAS-6. The use of instant rebound foam provides far greater vibration damping than is usually the case for dual action backing plate designs, while the hook and loop fastening material enables quick and easy pad changes. Once again, by paying attention to the details, Gloss It have moved the game on in terms of what can be expected from polishing accessories. Gloss It Dual Action Backing Plates are available in two sizes, to facilitate use with standard sized pads and spot repair pads respectively.
General usage notes: (i) always switch off your machine at the mains before fitting or removing a backing plate; (ii) always ensure that you tighten the backing plate sufficiently, but without over tightening it – a half turn of the spanner after it first pinches tight is usually sufficient for safe and effective use, and; (iii) always use an appropriate sized backing plate for the pad you are using – the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around. In addition, users should ensure that machine speed is limited to 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) and that only light pressure is applied to the head of the machine.
