The FLEX PE 8-4 80 Rotary Machine Polisher is a fantastic little tool for intricate polishing duties, but to get the best out of it you really need to invest in a matching set of backing plates and pads to go with it. By doing so, you will discover new possibilities in terms of what surfaces can be safely polished by machine. However, an important point to note is that as pad size becomes smaller so too does the margin of safety associated with the polishing process. This is because frictional heat becomes increasingly concentrated over a smaller area (thus increasing the risk of overheating the paint), and the degree to which the pad can be safely tilted rapidly diminishes too (particularly so when using softer finishing pads). Thus, FLEX 40 mm PE 8-4 80 Pads must be used with care.
FLEX 40 mm PE 8-4 80 Pads are manufactured using high quality foams, and are ideal for compounding, polishing and finishing all forms of modern paint systems in conjunction with the FLEX PE 8-4 80 Rotary Machine Polisher. These foams all feature a thermally reticulated open cell structure, which not only increases the relative cutting power of the pads (compared to closed cell equivalents), but also ensures that frictional heat is quickly dispersed. In addition, all FLEX 40 mm PE 8-4 80 Pads feature a splayed side profile with a bevelled lower edge, which maximises safety when working in hard to reach spots. Three different grades of pad are currently available in the range.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
