Congratulations to Bryan McNally of Stranraer for winning our December show n shine. This detail was done as a favour for his mother in law, as she had an important business meeting to go to and needed her car to look it's best. Although relatively new, the car lives on a farm and has already seen too many unkind washes, so Bryan had his work cut out. He started the detail with a thorough wash using copious amounts of Meguiars Shampoo Plus in conjunction with a Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt and the two bucket method in order to remove a heavy build up of mud, grime and manure! The wheels were then cleaned using Meguiars Wheel Brightener and a Meguiars Ultra Safe Wheel Spoke Brush, in order to remove a heavy accumulation of brake dust. Finally, the cleansing stage was completed by claying the bodywork with a Poorboys Clay Bar - this removed an incredible amount of bonded contaminants and left the paint feeling perfectly smooth.

The car was then taken into the garage and inspected. Under the halogens a large amount of damage could be seen in the paint, in the form of scratches from a football impact and heavy swirling caused by heavy handed washing. Bryan taped off the trims using 3M 3434 tape and set up his Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher ready for action. After trying a few different polishes he finally settled on Poorboys SSR2.5 and a Meguiars Soft Buff Cutting Pad to do the bulk correction work, followed by Menzerna Final Polish II on a Meguiars Soft Buff Polishing Pad to refine the finish. The freshly polished bodywork was then sealed using Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, and a final wipedown performed with Meguiars Quik Detailer to ensure a prefect smear free finish. Bryan estimates about 90% of the defects were removed, which isn't bad seeing as he only had 8 hours to do the work. The results look great to us - a superb turnaround, and no doubt a healthy dose of brownie points too!
