Auto Finesse Revitalise Kit

Click image to see larger view

In their usual style, Auto Finesse took a long, hard look at the machine polishing market in the UK before developing their own system of polishes, pads and accessories. They noticed that the UK marketplace is already awash with plenty of professionally orientated machine polishing products. On the one hand, this indicates that we are already quite a sophisticated market (reflecting the fact that we Brits do love to tinker with things). However, on the other hand, this has created a situation in which beginners find themselves swamped with technical choices. And then, when they turn to forums for advice, hugely contrasting opinions on what to use and why. At best this is confusing, at worst confidence shattering and/or risky. Auto Finesse have therefore taken a bold step and developed a simple machine polishing system aimed squarely at novices. This system features conveniently colour-coded and numbered pads and polishes, which removes guesswork from the equation of what to use with what to get good results. To aid you further, please note that we recommend using the Auto Finesse Revitalise Kit in conjunction with the Kestrel DAS-6 Dual Action Machine Polisher when tackling soft and intermediate paints, or the Kestrel Power Plus Dual Action Machine Polisher when tackling hard paints. If you wish to purchase one of these machines along with an Auto Finesse Revitalise Kit but are unsure about how hard your paint is, please review the look up table in the pdf linked below...

Although polishing with a dual action machine polisher is a relatively straightforward process, there are various important practical points to consider that are too numerous and involved to go into in detail about here. Therefore, if you require more detailed information about dual action machine polishers and how to use them safely and effectively, please take the time to read both the instructions supplied with your kit and our illustrated guides entitled "What Does Polishing Do?" and "What Polish Should I Use?".

Recommended method for correcting soft paint using the Revitalise system:

To correct swirl marks and other common paint defects, start out with Revitalise #3 (Refining Compound) on a 160 mm Refining Pad #3 (Red). Working at around 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) using light pressure should enable you able to correct a large proportion of the defects and produce a nice high gloss finish. If your paint is in bad condition and you find that more correction is needed, switch to Revitalise #2 (Polishing Compound) on a 160 mm Polishing Pad #2 (Yellow) - this product and pad combination offers much more cutting power, but should be used sparingly, as the rate of paint removal increases. When you are happy with the level of correction, follow up with Revitalise #3 (Refining Compound) on a 160 mm Refining Pad #3 (Red) again, in order to maximise surface gloss ahead of applying your favourite sealant or wax.

Recommended method for correcting intermediate paint using the Revitalise system:

To correct swirl marks and other common paint defects, start out with Revitalise #2 (Polishing Compound) on a 160 mm Polishing Pad #2 (Yellow). Working at around 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) using light pressure should enable you able to correct a large proportion of the defects and produce a nice high gloss finish (if your paint is in bad condition and you find that more correction is needed, switch to Revitalise #1 (Restoring Compound) on a 160 mm Restoring Pad #1 (Orange) - this product and pad combination offers much more cutting power, but should be used sparingly, as the rate of paint removal increases). When you are happy with the level of correction, follow up with Revitalise #3 (Refining Compound) on a 160 mm Refining Pad #3 (Red), in order to maximise surface gloss ahead of applying your favourite sealant or wax.

Recommended method for correcting hard paint using the Revitalise system:

To correct swirl marks and other common paint defects, start out with Revitalise #2 (Polishing Compound) on a 160 mm Polishing Pad #2 (Yellow). Working at around 4000-5000 orbits per minute (speed 4-5 on most dual action machine polishers) using moderate pressure should enable you able to correct a large proportion of the defects and produce a nice high gloss finish (if your paint is in bad condition and you find that more correction is needed, switch to Revitalise #1 (Restoring Compound) on a 160 mm Restoring Pad #1 (Orange) although this product and pad combination offers much more cutting power, it may still need to be used repeatedly to fully correct deeper defects on hard paint types). When you are happy with the level of correction, follow up with Revitalise #3 (Refining Compound) on a 160 mm Refining Pad #3 (Red), in order to maximise surface gloss ahead of applying your favourite sealant or wax.

General usage notes for machine polishing pads:

(i) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (ii) always use an appropriate sized backing plate for the pad you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iii) always ensure that spent polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using the supplied spurring brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so dont be lazy!); (iv) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly under fresh running water and allow to dry naturally, and; (v) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
