In their usual style, Auto Finesse took a long, hard look at the machine polishing market in the UK before developing their own system of polishes, pads and accessories. They noticed that the UK marketplace is already awash with plenty of professionally orientated machine polishing products. On the one hand, this indicates that we are already quite a sophisticated market (reflecting the fact that we Brits do love to tinker with things). However, on the other hand, this has created a situation in which beginners find themselves swamped with technical choices. And then, when they turn to forums for advice, hugely contrasting opinions on what to use and why. At best this is confusing, at worst confidence shattering and/or risky. Auto Finesse have therefore taken a bold step and developed a simple machine polishing system aimed squarely at novices. This system features conveniently colour-coded and numbered pads and polishes, which removes guesswork from the equation of what to use with what to get good results.
Auto Finesse 90 mm Revitalise Pads are made in Europe and engineered specifically for dual action compounding, polishing and finishing of modern paint systems. All of the pads feature a durable hook and loop backing, which is chamfered for safety and complete peace of mind. The firmer foam used for the cutting cut pad has a reticulated open cell structure, which not only cuts well but also allows air to circulate through the pad and thus carry away frictional heat. In contrast, the polishing and refining pads are both made of softer closed cell foams (with large and fine pores respectively), which is beneficial for less intensive polishing tasks where complete polish break-down is required in order to achieve marr-free results. These three grades of Auto Finesse 90 mm Revitalise Pads have been engineered to perfectly complement the three polishing compounds in the Revitalise system.
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always ensure that excess polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don’t be lazy!); (v) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of Lake Country Snappy Pad Cleaner solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vi) whilst not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
