To minimise the risk of inflicting marring and fine scratches during the washing process, we recommend using the soft Lambswool Wash Mitt to gently clean all bodywork and glass, and the harder wearing Meguiars Microfibre Wash Mitt for tougher tasks such as washing wheels and scrubbing the insides of wheel arches. Drying off after washing is perhaps the most risky part of the whole wash process. After trying out various methods and products, we have come to the conclusion that the only way to dry off safely is to use a waffle weave microfibre towel in conjunction with the pat drying method. Poorboys Waffle Weave Towel is highly absorbent and ultra-soft, which makes it ideal for this task.

Wheels are undoubtedly the hardest parts of cars to keep clean, particularly during the winter when the roads are dirty and washing is often overlooked. Menzerna Gel 7.5 Wheel & Tyre Cleaner is a detergent-based cleaner that contains cutting-edge surfactants, wetting agents and emulsifiers that quickly and safely break down and loosen tough deposits of brake dust and road grime. Note that this product is not a spray-on/hose-off cleaner. It is designed to be sprayed on, allowed to dwell and then agitated with either the Wheel Back Brush or the Meguiars Microfibre Wash Mitt, before being rinsed off. A tougher product is often called for in order to clean out dirty wheel arches properly and there is none finer than P21S Total Auto Wash. Finally, the choice of shampoo is also paramount to safe and effective washing. A car shampoo needs to be sufficiently slick to allow your wash mitt to glide over the surface and also needs to emulsify and encapsulate dirt particles so that they can be wiped away without scratching underlying surfaces. A car shampoo should also be gentle enough not to strip away existing layers of wax or sealant protection.
